iPhone and cisco vpn setup, anyone done it yet ? need to go thru an asa500. Already have the cisco vpn client working for the remote pc logins, now the president wants to get at his email on an exchange server. Any gotchas.

Does their Exchange have web mail? If so, you don't need to worry about VPN. Set it up with the web mail address and it will sync with no problems. I am assuming this is iPhone 3G ver. 2.2?

X2. It's what I do with my work mail. I'm sure you've already thought of this or perhaps you're just trying to over complicate things

Turns out it's an itouch not an iPhone, found a few good setups on penn state and a couple of other campus guides. Not sure about webmail yet, I don't know yet if it was setup by my predecessor yet. I'm too busy playing catch up and putting out what seem like hourly fires.

Don't ya love it. No matter what they use, if it doesn't work, they hand it to you with only two words, "fix it!"

Rich - the touch works the same as the phone. If it has the latest software, you can set it up as a MAPI client and it will sync mail, calendar and contacts.
You can also set them up as IMAP, or use the web interface.

No offense, but it sounds like your co. president is an idiot if he doesn't know the difference between an ipod and a phone. Has he been trying to talk into his ipod touch?

If the ipod touch is the same as the iphone I can check at work tomorrow. My coworker has his set up to get his mail. I can copy down all of the settings if you like and get back to you.

Not really, it was probably me who misheard, he has a blackberry for a phone.
Don't get me started, I have a phone for a phone and a laptop for real work. They remind me of crossovers, they do it all but none it real well.

I'm still reading and need to sit down with him to see what he's trying to accomplish, it's a toss up till I find out more. The issue on the touch is a bit different than the iphone. I guess with a bunch of lepord boxes in the art dept and these iPhones and Touch I can't ignore apple any more and pretend it's not there :-(

If he's got a BB you have two options.

1. Use a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) it will sync the BB and exchange.
2. Setup the exchange server for POP or IMAP and put those settings into your boss's BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) account online.

I know what you mean, bro. I've got around 35 Macs of all different flavors. Most are running Leopard, but I've still got a few running Tiger.
