Hello. I'm an ex-ford guy. I had a '95 F150 standard cab, short bed, 351w, straight pipes, 6" susp, 3" body, 37" SuperSwampers, full size spare mounted in bed, other small toys. I almost killed myself in it, and sold it out of fear.

I've since picked up this Jeep for an easy 500.

It's got a hum in the rear end only under positive load. The gentleman at the local 4x4 shop said it sounded like a pinion bearing, and since it'd been doing this before I owned it, the gears would likely be shot. Based on that, I'm looking for a new set of 4.10 gears, an LSD to slap in there, and a rear end rebuild kit. I hope I'm pointed in the right direction.

I'm wondering what all is involved with rebuilding the rear end (anything need pressing in and out). I think it should be easier since I'd be putting an LSD in. I have never done anything more to a rear end other than changing fluid and resealing the cover. I could not find anything listed under "axle" or "rebuild" on NAXJA, so if someone could lend a hand and point me in the right direction or advise me. I'd appreciate it.

BTW...I'm in Texas...and I can't find the Classifieds section.

Welcome!

The Red River Chapter Wanted Forum can be found here. It's a sub-forum of this one.

I'll let some of our more technically savvy members answer your questions about your shiny new toys rear-end.

You also need to know which rear end you have. you have 2 choices Dana 35 or Chrysler 8.25.

Setting up gears is a pain, in the rear, it's actually easier to drop out the whole housing and replace it with one you find in a junkyard.

Welcome to the RRC.
