Internal gas tank coating?

I was just wondering if you guys have had any experience with this stuff. I got my tank back a while ago, and am just getting around to putting it back in now, but the problem is, the damn thing has all kinds of rusty powder that falls down from the sides every time I move the tank. I've repeatedly vaccumed it out, and the bits keep coming back. That's when I thought about using this vinyl stuff I've heard mentioned, it puts a coating on the entire inside of the gastank. My tank is the origional one, and its getting kind of thin, but I can probably get another year or two out of it. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't used it, but I've heard good things about it. A friend of mine is building a sort of hot rod out of a 1950 Hudson. Tanks to fit that car haven't been available for 40 years, so he had the original tank steamed out and coated. So far he's been happy with it.

If your asking about the DIY stuff it's not very good. The treatment Eagle talking is great but a new tank is cheaper in most cases.
True. My friend did not go the J.C. Whitney, pour-it-in-and-slosh-it-around route. He had his tank coated at a shop that specializes in that kind of work. For price comparison, about the same time he had this tank done, I paid $150 for a new MJ tank (trade price). The de-rust and coat cost my friend somewhere between $250 and $300.

I've used tank coatings on MC gas tanks but when I do it I'd fill the tank with a whold bunch of sand and then put it in a paint shaker [friend worked in a hardware store] and let it run for about 40 minutes. Dumped the sand and flushed it out with thinner, then poured the mix in and held the tank in my hands turning it over, end for end and such for about 20 minutes then dumped the excess out. Used to get the mix from 'Drag Specialties' a MC supplier for choppers and such. It worked but a new tank is better, especially if the new tank is bigger with a built in skid plate. :laugh3: :laugh3:
