Getting the bottom bolts on the intake manifold is now a real pain for my old stiff fingers. As I intend to do some mods to the intake that require several removal and replacements. I was not looking forward to them bolts.
To ease the removal and replacement of manifold. I have cut the alignment pins boss in half. Still leaving an open saddle for the manifold to set on. The bottom bolts are left in place just turned in one turn. The manifold is the carefully slide down onto the saddles and a top bolt quickly installed to hold in place.
I have pickup a spare intake system (manifold, TB, fuel log, injectors, etc) to switch out with the original system to shorten down time. Making one mod at a time then switching out and testing.
The intake gasket was replace the first time but may not be replaced again as the manifold will be switched out before the gasket can take a real set. Hopefully.
I installed the unmodified (except for boss cuts) spare system two days ago. To run some baseline test and insure consistency between the two systems. So fare so good there.
It was a lot faster for me with the cuts and a world of difference on my old fingers. I will do some mild offing to see if the manifold will shift or slip out of place when bounced around. If not, This mod may ease others in installing a new system.
