Inline filter for snorkel

Post it up in here. Army Surplus stores should have them. I think the size of the can goes by how many are in the can. I have is a 800 rounds. You can run 2 hoses into it for DD and offroading. Maybe weld the corners to make them smooth curves or where the ruber starts on the filter ahve like a u shape behind it on both sides so the air doesnt get traped behind the filter.
 
I just though of something what about rivet to the hood and when the hood is down it falls right next to the intake so you can free up the fender? i dont have a XJ with me right now so im just throwing this out there

What? I don't see how that will accomplish anything. You will still need the room on the fender to accommodate the box when the hood is down. Not to mention the convoluted tubing mess you would need to have a hinged air box.
 
I'm still looking at options for a box and filter, I have the plumbing worked out. The issue I have is I would rather run a paper filter but I can't seem to source one that can be clamped to a 3" fitting.

Also the ammo cans I have looked at are going to be difficult to make work. The large size may be too big unless it is layed on its side then it will be difficult to get to the filter for easy removal.

The small size will not fit a good flowing filter very easily.

I need something that is 8"x8"x10" with a removable/sealable top on one of the 8x10 sides. I thought about a power box of some sort that was made for wet locations but could not source any at the local supply house.
 
ok how about a scoop on the hood nothing fancy or large just a little one. that is your street air with some way of shutting it down then you can still run your pipe thought the fender for the snorkel for your off road air

how bout this? http://www.thor4x4.com/html/xj_cowl_induction.html that could be really easy to build on your own. and you could partition the cowl so you can close it off and run a tube up pass side for the snorkel?

plus frees up a space to put a air compressor? dual batt? toolbox? :viking: ooooo now im getting excited


the 2 inlet idea may not be worth the aggravation

That's a pretty decent idea. Using an ammo box would make that so easy. Install the box in a good spot in relation to the hood, install the scoop above the box. Remove the lid for road driving, which is simple as the lids are removable already. Then install the lid to seal off the box and use the snorkel.
 
Hey guys i talked to the river radier guys they told me that they use a AEM filter and an extra outlet is 10 bucks. but it has a flat end on it not good for air. Thats alot of piping runing from the p/s of the jeep across the engine and to the intake and the snorkel running all the way over to the p/s to the filter housing. Maybe one of those inline cold air cone filters with the housings and just run flex tube from the intake to it and then to the snokel but there rated at 250bhp i never heard of a filter being rated:lickout:
 
I wounder if you put the box in the wiper area and then run piping for the snorkel to the other side where the motor to the wipers are and making a hole and from there running flex tubing to the snorkel? Is there room to run something like that? I dont care if it takes alot of time to do. Thats why its called project. Only thing with the wiper area I dont think you would have a Ram effect.:fuse:
 
After spending many hours looking for a water/air tight container to put the filter in, I have sourced a "bucket" with re-sealable lid. The bucket is 2 gallons (it is 8" tall, not sure of the diameter yet) and has a screw on lid that is water/air tight (sealed by a "O" ring). I can easily adapt a stock "round" paper filter of some sort to the bucket and have it as a pass through type air filter and put it directly in line with the TB and air tube inlet on the drivers side fender.

I will order the bucket/lid today and post up results when I get it.

i don't see why you could not run your snorkel off the pass side. i think im going to run my intake there when i do ill post some pics off the cowl area when i cut into it. i don't get into the really deep stuff anyways. and i really want to clear and area for on board air and that spot is ideal for a compressor.
 
I think im going to look and see if i can do that but im worryed about rain and snow in washington. But it would keep all the piping from getting warm and just cut a hole and run the piping to the snorkel and you have a free fender. I was also thinking about getting a diesel XJ snorkel and move everything to the P/S so everything stays cool and its something diff everyone can see. you would only have to worry about the connection to the snorkel and possibly add a drain hose/hole encase rain gets in the snorkel
