Ughh... Taurus popped up a new problem last night. Now when coasting the idle will drop from 1k-ish to 500 or less. It even died on me at one stop sign. I'm about ready to trade the damn thing off.

vacuum leak.

IAC slams itself shut to compensate and kills the motor.
BTDT.
I found it in the hard plastic line that runs from the brake booster to the intake manifold.

of course Ford will only sell you the entire thing, including the goofy ass vacuum check valve. it was more expensive than it sh9ould be, so I made one out of rubber hose and a generic brake booster check valve from the dorman section. Cost like $20.
This was on a year 2003ish taurus with the v6.

Thanks for tid bit there Nate. Gives me something to look at if our taurus ever starts acting that way. Hopefully its sold before then.

On a side note, parts jeep went to scrap yard yesterday. Glad its gone but was hoping for a little bit more out of it. I know scrap is down right now but jeez is it not worth scraping anything. 1900lbs of jeep and scrap metal only brought $38. Oh well its out of my driveway.

Thanks. That is exactly the same car as this one 2003 Ferd Taurus rental car special v-6

you'll find all of the major vacuum hoses are plugged into the intake manifold on the bottom of it on the backside of the motor, mostly towards the drivers side.

I think that as the motor mounts wear and it all flexes it cracks the hard lines.

here's the culprit on the one I fixed:

Thanks again....We got this car for the kids to have something reliable for school and it turns out to be a vacuum nightmare the FSJ. I guess im lucky I still have all those vacuum line rolls.

There's a giant vac adapter on the backside of the intake on the same side. They are usually swelled from being oil soaked. You can zip tie them. Also check the pcv hose on the passenger side for being cracked. It also has a giant elbo on it. I've also seen the intake manifold tuning valve oring leak. It's on the passenger side intake too. It's a large plastic piece with two screws holding it on.

I'd clean the throttle body and mass air flow sensor when you do it.

If it's the dual overhead cam 3.0 it's usually the pcv hose split on the side by the pcv

It's the single cam 2 valve version. I already replaced the pcv valve elbow and tube since it was cracked and leaking when we got the car.

Sometimes after an argument with customer service i feel bad...i just spent an hour blasting a Verizon customer support guy who kept telling me that my wife's phone suddenly using 5x more data overnight was normal due to the amount of data increases in web pages these days...that page content was always changing and this was normal even though she doesn't use her phone any differently...he also kept ignoring the fact that her phone suddenly had a background program that was suddenly using 10x more data and her chrome app was using 20-50x more data....I finally gave up and am going to do a hard reset..something got loaded on there that is hemorrhaging data and I can't find it. A hard reset will be a lot faster than waiting for their cs to pass me to someone competent. I understand that these folks are just reading a screen, but c'mon. 2 apps suddenly consuming 10-50 times more data overnight isn't normal

I had to go off on my friendly Frontier CSA thus morning because my interweb was down to a crawl. Then it went out again. Average of three times per week I have to go down and reset the $0.25 POS modem they make me use. Three times I was disconnected before anyone even said "Hello". Finally someone informed me that the modem I have is a three year old model, he says, "You must have had this for a while." It has been changed three times in the last year, the last time was in June.

I have heard so much bad things about Frontier, that is why I went with Time Warner for our internet. Your story sounds like other horror Frontier stories.
