How do I get my seat belt to lengthen when unbolted? Trying to put it back in and it's stuck. Gotta be something simple

I just kept constant pressure on the belt then jerked it a little and it let loose. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to make it work.

alternator gave up the ghost on the way to work this am...looks like i have to change an alternator before i leave. i was really hoping to find a set of tires for the xj tonight, but i may have to cross my fingers and hope my racing slicks make it there and back.
