Important

The reason we do swag/lunch/etc is for sales, it helps when you spend a few bucks on lunch or a couple hundred on dinner for a group of guys in order to get a multi- million dollar sale. My job as an applications engineer is part sales not just engineering, have to be a people person and a suck up for the most part, haha

There is a lot to be said about the company that will smooze a little. I just changed seed dealers (for the 3rd time in 6 years) bc my last one was great up front and then after he thought he had our business, he started slacking and nopt giving any service after the sale.....

The new guy is fresh out of college a few years, wants to earn the trust and business. I used his company for years on fertilizer and chemical, but we put 10 acres of his corn out last year. I saw him scouting for pests and weeds 2x a week, calling just to check in, gives hats, coats, Christmas hams etc. He even came by the hospital to see me last year. So he went from getting $4,000 of our business to over $500,000 of our business and he is greatful for it. And for me, I like hats and hams :D he took my father-in-law and myself to New Orleans last January for a 4 day all expense paid trip...all I can say is they really impressed us on that trip with their hospitality!

here, ha! money.

we haven't gotten raises in years. they took Christmas bonuses away, snatched away a day we had off, and down graded the xmas party to a 7th grade pizza party in the showroom during work hours with customers in the waiting room.

****ing joke.

We had the blow out steak house christmas feast for employees and spouses. Everything was taken care of including the bar tab. Sales people decided to get splattered... drive and hurt a family really badly. The company got sued as the asshats were drinking on the company dime. Hourly guys were drinking too... big difference was they got together paid to rent a big van and paid the guy in AA to drive everyone home.

interview seemed to go great. they told me that they were only interviewing 3 or 4 people and he told me right off the bat that they want me to come in for a second interview. the first question he asked me was "what is someone with your skill level doing living here?" i took that as a good sign :)

I don't understand people who work for a wage and then get mad because the Christmas party sucks. You work, you get paid.

We switched the catering company for the Christmas party for this year and I'm glad we did. And they gave us a turkey or ham. Trying to butter us up with the new contract coming up. If they give us a decent increase and a little better insurance I'll be more than thrilled. Some of the people are saying they want a $5 raise and all kinds of asinine things.

We got a 2% raise for next year.

Our insurance is going up and taking half the raise.

I don't know what a Christmas party or bonus is...

oddly enough my biggest client sometimes gives me a "christmas bonus" basically a way to say thank you for putting a s*&%ton of money in his pocket this year. go out and buy your self a nice ham...

I think I should get my 2% raise next year (forgot to ask this at the performance review). My health insurance is dropping $20 a pay check. We have a Christmas party and everyone got a $25 gift card to somewhere and it had great food (the company takes money from soda machine sales to pay for the party and gift cards). We used to get bonuses, but that stopped at the sale of the station to the current owner (that is okay, they gave sale bonuses that equaled three months pay). I do miss the higher percentage raises, but as long as I get a raise.

How do you "forget" to ask for a raise? It's called work not fun for a reason.

And even then, I've never asked for a raise. I either got one or told management that I needed one.

We get about a 1% raise each year. The raise and the subsuqent taxes with that raise just about cancel each other out. That being said we do get a healthy bonus around Thanksgiving, but thats about the only decent perk.

They do a catered Thanksgiving meal from cracker barrel every year and we get two days off for Thanksgiving. Nothing for a Christmas party and only have Christmas day off. Have to work a full day Christmas eve. I usually wind up burning a vacation day so I can be with my family.

Today is bonus day.

Today is also my home ownership class thing. I get to make $3750.00 an hour.

It's gonna be a good day.

With my day job being that I work for the USDA it is a given that we do no get raises when we ask or tell them we think we need more, that is just tough shit. We get raises like all other civilian gov workers and that is based on a schedule of series, grade and steps. I can work my ass off and have another employee of the same position/grade that does not do shit, we both get the same pay. We get cost of living increases, but have not for years due to the current federal budget. We got a 1% last year.

On the farm side of things, I give my hired help a Christmas bonus. It's not much, but it is my way of saying thats for them helping with the random hours and being away from their families when I am gone with mine traveling on the holidays to see my family back south. The help always seems appreciative and that is why I do it, if they get to where they question or expect it, it will stop. I usually give them $500 cash and throw in a gift card or certificate to some place they can take their family. Lucky for me, I only have 1-2 guys a year working for us, so it is not too hard on the pocket book :D
