But i keep my tools in my purse...:shhh:

just use a closed 9/16 wrench? i dont think its the power of the nut. i think its likely the wrench hitting the bracket and not moving.

I usually end up turning the selector when getting them off until it stops in either 2wd or 4L, I can't remember which way it goes. Then use my arm muscles to get it free. You can put a pipe on the wrench.

Anyone running this:

rugged ridge 18676.60

Its the Rugged Ridge NP231 Slip Yoke Eliminator Kit

I don't need it at the moment, but I can get it for a good price and eventually when I do a belly up on the LJ I will need it. I don't know much about it, but it says its an upgrade...

It certainly sounds nice on the interwebs...

I think my buddy ran one of those slip yokes on his tj. Never had any problems out of it that I know of

I put one in silver jeep and put one in Cookie's Comanche. No problems.

From what I could remember, it's no different than the AA in mine.

Interesting.

It's $50 to $100 less (retail) than the AA one...

If i remember correctly i thought that i seen them listed for around $150 from Baseline 4x4. Atleast thats where my buddy got his from.

Good morning!

worked on the jeep last night, nothing but a couple of busted fingers to show for it.

those of you that swapped to the novak cable, how the hell do it get that top transfer case nut off thats holding the OE bracket on?
i cant get that sonbitch to break. used about a can of PB already and not sure i could even get a torch up there.

9/16" stubby gear wrench is your friend on t'case nuts.

Read my mind.

I own 2 regular 9/16 and 1 stubby 9/16 gearwrench because of tcase nuts.

alright...what sort of things do you always forget to pick up when doing a motor swap? I have a good list, but i still feel like im missing things. i may or may not have a vehicle for part store runs when i swap motors, but even if i do, i hate running to the store when things are moving along well...

also its a 96 motor going into an 00...so automatically there is some weirdness...

You must be thinking of a different nut. i am refering to the one at the top of the triangleish shaped bracket that holds the selector. it is held on by 1 stud and 2 nuts.

I've always used an extension to get that top bolt out.

do you go at it from an angle from the drivers side?

i do have a set of stubby wrenches that i did not try because i thought i would lose the leverage.

ima see if i can find a decent pic so i know we are all talking about the same nut.

Oh, I got it...

I have a 9/16th open end wrench bent in half for all those bolts...

Disconnect linkage, take off the other nut, move bracket out of the way as much as possible, and come front the front with an extension.

Yesterday - 5:50am flight to Amarillo with a stop in Houston. 2 hour drive to Oklahoma once in Amarillo. Worked on site for a couple hours, then drove 2 hours back to Amarillo to crash (almost literally) at the hotel. Finally settled down somewhere around 9-10CST.

Today - 6:00am flight home with a stop in Dallas. Flight from Amarillo to Dallas was 30 min late, which made my layover in Dallas go from 30 minutes to 0 minutes. One tram ride across the ENTIRE airport and a 2 minute mile run across the "E" terminal later, and I get to my gate just as they call my group to board. There went breakfast as well as nothing was open at the time back in Amarillo.

Get to the office around 1:15 today after landing and a lunch break to find i'm scheduled for another field visit in Minnesota for Thursday and Friday. Had plans for the SEC beach trip this weekend that involved me taking Friday as vacation, which I put in for before the Crawl. On my way to the office the beach plans changed, but I was still going to keep Friday off and enjoy the downtime after a long week. Come to find out, my vacation time was never put on the schedule by the person who shouldn't have any say in that matter at all, but unfortunately does because she feels the need to be in EVERYBODY'S business.

So now i'm going to MN Thursday & Friday, and probably won't be home in time to come get my check on Friday (because we're so old school, we don't have direct deposit). So I won't get paid until Monday, at best, because there's also the possibility of a trip to CA over the weekend...
