Important

Re: Re: Important

Howiepaloza is a big event every year to celebrate an old time Iowa 4x4 guy named Howie. For the last handful of years he's had it at SMORR. This year he is holding a charitable raffle for his niece(I think). April 24-27th.

I'm heading down the 23rd early in the morning with a few buddies, with most everyone else going Thursday.

Interesting. I'll have to try to make it one of these years.

Well I'm starting to think I may be doing a tranny swap in the zj here soon. It's starting to slip going into 2nd. It's just starting to get a little worse now. What tranny would it be in a 98zj with the v8? I'm thinking it's the 44rh or something like that but could be wrong.

That reminds me, I need to find some ZJ rear disk brakes for my little 2 Dr before Howiepaloza in a few weeks. Drums suck

too bad you're all the way over there. I saw 2 zj's with complete brakes in the pull a part the other day.

I should probably go rape them next week.

44RE for the 5.2 and 46RE for the 5.9

And I've scrapped 4 of them in the last year but didn't have time to yank the brakes.

I have the set on the buggy but it is not in a spot to pull them easily.

Posted a pic on FB. couple non jeep friends posted on it. this is all i can think of...

Ben, what exactly is it doing?

Is it a shutter shift like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in? That would indicate solenoids.

Russ More here in town will give you a free diagnosis. Might be worth it just to have them tell you what they think. They did the 5.9 tranny for 900 cash and carry or 1200 they pull it, put it back in.

They did the solenoids on the megacab that I had a few years ago too for a real good price.

One last thing, the TPS made the 5.9 shift a little funny too, replaced that and it made a big difference.

Don't write it off yet, but if you do, the take-a-part over by me usually has a big selection of ZJs that you could yank one out of. If we plan it right, I could help you pull it and we could put it in at my house if you wanted.

Sometimes it shifts just fine and then other times it will just rev out until you let off the gas a bit then it will shift.

Autos aren't terribly bad, you just need to have the mindset going in that everything has to go back together the exact way it came out... I've rebuilt an AXOD; (3) AX4N; a 4R70 and now a 4R100 for complete overhauls. Not counting times I've just gone through valve bodies (Escapes were notorious)...

I have an AW4 I've been toying with the idea of rebuilding, but haven't gotten around to it yet... I've been talking to the local transmission guy and might be working for him during the summer months for a little $$ and as great professional development.

I would love to have someone who knew what they were doing let me watch. (trans rebuild).

Ask a local guy. Mine told me the next trans I need done to bring it along with a class of students up to watch. I'm pretty sure I'll take the TH350 for the wife's CJ once I get the adapter and output shaft kit...

I'd love to get my hands into one of those 42RH or 44REs behind the 5.9s... Those and the AW4 I think are my next projects to play around with...

Almost sounds like solenoids.

Can't decide what gear it wants to be in?

The 5.9 is a 46 or 48...
