Important

I've always wanted one of these for custom beadlock rings...

Grace hit a car in the parking lot where she gets her hair done yesterday with the 5.9

No damage to either vehicle thankfully!

Get yourself some of their tire spoons... and some tire changing lube. The kind that's OK for rubber. The tire changer supposedly won't work for tires over like a 33 from what I hear (this may be wron), tire spoons work on anything. I've done em sitting in the back yard with a high lift and my jeep to break the bead and just lube and tire irons to get the tires on and off.

You can go a bit larger. too much larger and you just wouldn't be able to get enough leverage on anything to make it work.

So the 4.0 in the white ZJ seems to stumble at random times while I'm driving it. It feels like a power loss, such as when a coil is going out, but it always stays running. If I floor it, it builds rpms and runs fine. Sometimes it will run fine after doing this, sometimes it takes two or three times of flooring it and then its fine.

I've replaced the following on it:
cat
battery
alternator
serp belt (was worn out)
plugs
wires
dizzy cap
rotor
ran a new ground from the motor to the firewall
tps
iac
pcm

Only thing electrical that I can think is the pick up on the dizzy...well and the map or whatever that one is, it hasn't been replaced.

It does it more right after start up with in a mile. Warm or cold.

i had something similar for years before i figured it out. was an intermittent TPS. finally went out one day and threw a code. if you already replaced that, i got nothing.

Yup, that was the first thing I replaced because I thought that it was it.

I have also had that happen... comanche is doing it right now, I just ignore it.

Old XJ did it too. Went away spontaneously when I pulled and reinstalled the whole powertrain to put a new tranny in the middle.

I absolutely hate intermittents. Give me 100% or 0%, none of this "haha screw you buddy it only does it when there is a full moon and you hit a pothole while driving at half throttle" crap that I can't debug while driving.

Wheeled the Yoga tonight. Even used 4 lo and the e locker. Needed it to get in stuck from the island in our driveway. Stepped on the brake and picked up speed lost control and landed in a snow pile.
-18 yesterday morning now it is 40 and raining.
Slip sliding away.

Dammit Ken, I was hoping for an answer from you! PO has same problem, never left him stranded, hasn't left me stranded, I'd like to trade/sell this off and find the problem first.

Cap is new, but thinking about grabbing a dizzy out of the junk yard ZJ that is identical to this one (except for the paint) and see if the dizzy changes things.

Another buddy told me that its cheaper to buy a rebuilt one from autozone than the dizzy pickup alone...

I get frustrated when dealing with intermittents, what can I say :gee:

I wait for them to either go away or become permanent failures. At which point they are much much easier to find.

I'm easily annoyed.

For some reason these 98 4.0 ZJs don't come from the factory with the ground we always see on the XJs from the head to the fire wall. I added one. In fact there are NO visible ground straps on it except one to the dipstick tube bolt on the block within the wiring harness.

I've looked at mine and two others in the junk yard and no signs of a ground strap.
