Important

I'm in Georgia, still not as bad as driving through Kansas!

Let me say this about drinking and driving.

2 or 3 beers is not going to put you behind bars unless you have had nothing to eat, you slammed them, or they were larger than a 12oz beer, and then went driving.

How the body gets rid of the alcohol all depends on the person, but for the most part, when people say they went to jail for drinking 2 or 3 beers, they are lying in one form or another.

Every state, county, city, does things differently with how they take folks to jail for .08. Locally we do two breath tests on a certified machine, the two tests certify each other. If you refuse you will lose your license for a year. If you refuse you will also get a blood test after a judge is woke up to sign a warrant for the blood test, those folks have also been getting 30-90 days for contempt of court (time served no day for day) for refusing the breath test. My county, smaller in population than Indy, has at some points led the state in drinking and driving arrests.

Know your limits and be careful. Its very intense if you have to do field sobriety just like Sam said. But just as he knew his limits, he had not drank enough to be over the limit.

If you have ever partied with me, you know that I usually bring my pbt with me. If you can keep from drinking for a few minutes, I will test you so that you will know where you are at, based on how your feel. It's not always proven, but will give you an idea.

Being stopped and blowing .08 at the scene, around here we will wait 10 to 20 minutes and retest to see if you are going up or down and make a determination from there.

Remember that there has to be a reason to stop you as well. Speeding, no headlights, no turn signals, easy stuff to pull you over for.

I need a new battery for the Xj and want a good one for the first time.
I was thinking a Optima D34m blue top fit the bill pretty well being a combination deep cycle/starting battery.

I could use the extra posts on top for my winch, compressor, subwoofer,cb,future l.e.d. lights etc.

What do you guys think, is it worth $200 or am I wasting $ on a brand name ?

I really like the optima. Even with the newer company taking over a few years ago, I've had great luck with mine.

You'll see in several responses that will follow that many have heard horror stories about them and everyone has problems with them and don't like them and will suggest odessy and die hard and other types.

Mine have lasted at least 7 years and what kills them is sitting, and not being used for several years, just like any battery. If they are used regularly I have had great luck with them.

We used to go to Cop School when they did their DUI stop practicles. Six to ten of us, mostly firefighters, would volunteer to be the "drunk driver" and the trainees would assess us like it was a real traffic stop. They would use flashlights and do the look left look right thing to look for eye movements and then the walk the line gig. Beforehand us drunks got to drink for free in an empty class room. They determined how much you got by your weight. Once he gave me 10 shots of Jack in a cup and I chugged it.
At the end of the class we have to line up in front of the class so they can guess our BAC.
Good times. It is the only time I have been field sobriety tested.

That's awesome!

I did that once when I was a dispatcher several years ago...

They used to use police officers and firefighters but quit when they kept getting to drunk and wanted to fight lol

OKB, the yellow top is going to be the best optima for your application.

Winch must go to the top post.

I read a few places the D34m is the same as the yellow top but in a blue case with extra top post outs instead of the side that are rated the same as the main posts unlike the yellow.

The 34m blue top is supposed to have the same relationship with the red top.

May just go yellow since its what you guys have used.

I have run a winch off the side posts with no issues. It was the only thing I ran off the side posts.

Diehard platinum.

Me too but my eyes hurt the next day from "look left, look right, follow the flashlight with your eyes. Keep your head straight."

Checking for HGN

Diehard platinum.

OKB

I warned you.

Blue 34m is NOT warranted in deep cycle applications

D34m is the deep cycle version of the blue thats the one I was leaning towards supposedly identical to yellow with top posts that are rated higher than the yellows side posts.

You called it.

Guess I will search around a bit about the diehard platinum Flex, I'm guessing its a bit cheaper ?

I'm not bashing Optima. I have heard that their quality took a dive but I've never ran one so I dunno. My diehard has a 4 year free replacement/8 year prorated warranty and was close to the cost of the optima. Probably be fine either way because you'll likely find an issue with a battery before the free replacement part of the warranty is up.
