Important

I'm not bashing Optima. I have heard that their quality took a dive but I've never ran one so I dunno. My diehard has a 4 year free replacement/8 year prorated warranty and was close to the cost of the optima. Probably be fine either way because you'll likely find an issue with a battery before the free replacement part of the warranty is up.

That's the problem with people who bash optimas...

They have heard about this or that...

I have a referb battery that Nate got me in the jeep and a off the shelf Walmart "HD" battery in the tow rig. They both work. The craftsmen diehard platinum is a rebadged odyssey. Get big 00 gauge cables if you haven't already.

We have a cottage in Ontario that is off the grid. We have a solar array, generator, and batteries for power. We have tested every battery sold. The better Farm and Fleet store brand last three times longer than any others. Up next are the Die Hards.
Real world use.

I should have elaborated in the original post. I can't say anything bad but I also can't say enough good about the diehard. The thing flat out works. We'll see how it does when I get the winch on.

Mac, I would be interested in useing your tester just to see what .08 physically feels like. Like I said I knew I was good to drive but had no idea what kinda number I would blow.

I was worried they would make me say the alphabet bacwards because I couldnt do that shit sober.

the scariest part of the whole ordeal was standing on the side of the dark country road with cars driving 50/60mph knowing some of them could actually be wasted. Kinda nerve wrecking.

I run motorcraft batteries in everything I drive. One point to the 1st person that knows why

Because you get a discount? :D

Job security baby...

Got the wj out on her first real test after 3 days of work. Drove 7 hours to Melissa's folks house without a hiccup...got 20-21 mpg driving into a headwind and over the Catskills. Still got a lot of work I want to do to it, but for the money I couldn't be happier.

My last yellow top lasted 4 years. Wasn't too impressed by that.

Seems you run them dead once and they never quite recover all the way.

Running a Plat from sears right now. Have a little over 2 years on it. We'll see how long this one lasts.

I have fleet farm batteries in the truck. Has 11-2009 written on them. Theyve been good so far, seem to be able to crank the truck quite a bit before it starts slowing down. I have ran them down a couple times and they seem to be fine.

This, I've ran a couple dry-cells and have never been too impressed...

I had a yellow top in the '91. It went dead my first deployment because my wife wouldn't drive it like I asked her to. That one was probably my fault.

Had a red top in the '91 hat went into thermal meltdown (I got a few technical terms under my belt :D ) when I was driving it. I could hear it out gas when I got home. I replaced it with another red top that lasted a couple of years and wouldn't stay charged on the trickle charger.

All 3 of them were 3 years old or less. The reason I won't buy them is because I don't think they last any longer than any other battery. They're a good battery, tons of power and performance, but the cost is hard to swallow when I can buy a battery at Sam's Club for $80 that works as well and lasts as long.

The only battery we normally use is napa batteries. So far we haven't had any bad issues with them. My old xj had a yellow top in it and it never have us any problems.

My mom is driving my XJ, her van (2005 Windstar) won't start. Battery terminals are corroded like crazy. I don't know if that is the issue. She said it started and then shut off. It is low on oil (it leaks), but there was some on the dip stick. This van is not great, but there was no way to tell this. I may end up selling the XJ to her if the van's engine is toast for whatever she can get out of the van. I don't want to, but I can find another XJ for cheap later on (or maybe a TJ) and I know the XJ is dependable and I want her to have something dependable over something that is not.

This won't be for sale, EVER. It will die with me, hopefully in 10 years or more.

Several of us have said this...
