I have a model 60 from the 70's sitting at home, the internals are getting wore out, but it was my dads first rifle, the first rifle I ever shot and I will take it the range every so often, fire a few rounds and put it back.

scarping this stuff off my frames rails for stiffeners....arm is getting tired.

those of you that have done this, did you just scrape it with a chisel or is there a trick that i dont know?

I used a combo of wire wheel, grinder, and flap wheels.


That is a shitty job no matter how you do it.

when i did mine no one made stiffeners...I had to cut templates out of cardboard then cut the pieces of metal out of flat stock with the torch.

Sam, I just used a chisel and scraped it pretty clean, then hit it with a flap disc on my angle grinder. It turned out clean. Really the chisel was to get most of the crap off so it wouldn't clog up the flap disc. The newer XJs seem to have a harder coating that's less rubbery, which I think makes things easier.

Hell I even welded it myself and it hasn't fell apart yet

For the rails I use those paint removal wheels, takes about 10 minutes.

36 grit flap wheel... Like Brian said it takes 10 minutes

I've put these on so many jeeps I have it down to a science.... I'm putting a set in the dd soon

I've got a model 60 from the 70s. Dad found it on the railroad tracks when he was younger. That thing shoots great and is a nail driver. I really need to clean it but Ive not been able to find a breakdown of it.
