Clean xj's are going for 5k+ here, with 150k miles.

In other news..... My son is home from Canada, haven't seen him in a year. He brought his gf (french Canadian), I like her. Couldn't live w her tho. Lol.

My daughter, cam and Addy will be her within a few hours, and my oldest daughter in the am. Tomorrow will be the highlight of my year.

Sell Lexis xj then 2000 178k on body 135k on motor.

I will buy a NICE WJ with 4 to 5k.

Enjoy your family, tell everybody I said hi!!!

Ok quick question. When you take a vehicle into the dealer, can they pull more codes than what I can at home with a code reader?

Depends on the reader you have. Code capability is probably the same, but the dealers scan tool can also data log the sensors and other things associated with the computer. A basic scan tool doesn't do that. It just reads fault codes.

A dealer scan tool can do other stuff sometimes too - depending on the car, it can access other modules such as the TCU, ABS HCU, instrument panel, etc. Not that you need that.

Well have had a code for a catalytic converter and a vacuum leak pop up which I knew of. Now this week my tach gauge has been doing crazy circles all week on the way to work. It is just fine on the way home. Trying to figure out what is going on with it. Thinking I should have never gotten rid of my old gas hog of a Jeep.

X2! Every since the recall, WJs fell through the floor around here. 5k will get a pretty nice one. I just wish they got better mileage. All things considered, I don't think 4-5k for a decent XJ is unreasonable as compared to similar cars of a similar age, however thanks to NAXJA I now undervalue all of them and if it's over 2-3k I'm usually not interested.

Is this on Suzi's Jeep or on the Sebring? Either way, when you go out tomorrow do the instrument cluster self test. Hold the trip reset button when you turn the ignition on. It will test all of the gauges. That could narrow it down to a cluster issue or a computer/sensor issue.

I have also had erratic gauge behavior when I have a battery with internal issues or a failing alternator. My Trans Am would sweep the gauges on start-up (like a Vette) until I replaced the alternator.

This is on the Sebring. What is this cluster test you speak of? I was gonna go get the battery and alternator checked this weekend

You just hold the trip reset button with the key off, then turn the key on and release the reset button. Not sure what year yours is, but it should look something like this:

The cluster is doing all of that itself, with no communication with the PCM. So if the gauge movement is erratic during the test, you know it's a problem with the cluster. Otherwise you are looking at a wiring issue or PCM problem most likely (for just the tach output, assuming it runs fine otherwise).

I will try that out when we get home. The Sebring is an 01. it runs just fine except for gauge moving around

I've had xjs do funny things when the alternator starts to go...

mac 'not a long nap' gyvr

Turkey just got a pound of butter shoved up its ass getting wrapped in bacon and going in the smoker

Let me know how this turns out. Sounds so damn good, I picked up an extra turkey to do this to at school in a couple weeks for our finals week feast

made a deal on the wj today...going to seek out a spare tranny and a transfercase just for the helluvit...its super clean on the outside, inside is really good. the battery was dead so he couldn't get it to run. it ran for a split second, but i don't think the battery charger had enough juice to power the injectors so it died again and it couldn't crank it over after that...i'm not too concerned about it though, he drove it to where it sits now. Driver seat has some cracking, but no rips. the other seats are really nice...it has a big fancy kenwood dvd/stereo system that will be getting removed and sold. i couldn't find any rust, but it does have the plastic rocker covers on it. for $650 having the clean shell isn't a bad deal. he has a dealer license and since it cant pass inspection he cant sell it without fixing it. he is not a mechanic so he would have to shell out a good chunk of change to replace what needs to be replaced and so he is just dumping it for cheap...hoping to pick it up friday and start working on it immediately

I have two VW bugs in the shop right as I type... One needs a trans filter and flush, of course I don't have the machine... The other has a new battery, but the alt isn't putting out what it should and if it sits for two days, the battery goes dead. But, the parasitic draw test is well below the spec...

VWs can be done without the special tools. Take the center out of the drain plug, On the front of the trans is a dummy fill plug with a red cap on it. Fight and cuss and throw stuff til it comes off. It has two tabs that have to be moved just right. Itll come off. Then start the car and fill til it trickles or dribbles out the hole of the drain plug. Then put the center back in.
When we do the service we usually put a quart or two in the pan before we install them.
If is an 06? Bug (dont quote me on the years the bulletin covered)then VW had a recall on the VB in the trans. That was extended under warranty but was not sent out to VW owners. There are many class action lawsuits out for this because many of them Many of them went bad and VW said that they were shit out of luck. The VB has a known issue. If not caught in time it will burn the unit up.
New trans is like 6k and Jasper doesnt reman them, From what we found they were only availible from VW.

The one we had in was fixed with a VB then two weeks later she jumped a set of railroad tracks and ripped the trans pan and broke the VB and oil pan off the car.

Ok quick question. When you take a vehicle into the dealer, can they pull more codes than what I can at home with a code reader?

Yes a Dealer scanner or a higher end scanner can read more codes then a typical code reader.
