Did Mac have problems with his front Dana 30

no...i have a hp 30 with 3.73 that i gave to mac for his 5.9 to swap out for the lp one. i was selling it to him, but the when i picked it up on my trip back to iowa, it suddenly didn't want to rotate any more...and someone had been moving it around my shop with the cover off so there was a little dirt in the carrier. i think the brakes are just sticking on it, but curious me wants to know if the gears are any good. if they are he is going to pay me for it...if not, then he has a nice boat anchor :) the gears looked fine with the cover off though.

I plan to tear into it after Harlan and hopefully if Dan's gear job goes good we can inspect the gears with my gear guy. The thing I really wanted out of it is a reverse cut housing with good 3.73 reverse cut gears for the 5.9. So by the second full week of July, I'll get with you on it.

And as long as the LJ isn't torn up from the Badlands this coming weekend or Harlan July 4th weekend, it shouldn't be an issue.

I have another reserve cut D30 to put in the LJ, to build it like Dan is building his D30 for his new Jeep...it has 3.55s in it.

had an interesting situation happen today...i have a fairly close knit extended family, so when someone seems to be ignoring you, you tend to notice. on a hunting trip in 2008 to canada before the election, we were having a discussion amongst cousins/uncles about gun control. clearly, my perspective on guns is a little different than most being a hunter weirdo hippie rocker redneck and we disagreed, which is totally fine and happens all the time in my family. i generally expect that most of my family won't understand why i think the way i do, so i don't open my mouth much in political arguments often. apparently, one of my cousins decided to hold the argument i was making against me and decided that i was a crazy liberal (even though i've never been affiliated with a political party, nor will i ever choose to be)...and ever since then he hasn't said much to me. fast forward to today when i decided against my better judgement to run my mouth on a hunting forum where people were arguing about politics to throw in my usual "both parties suck" argument and he decided to let me know why he hasn't been speaking to me for 5 years on a public forum...nice. its always crazy to me how people will judge you (even your family members) based on one conversation on one item of disagreement. i disagree with people all the time, but i never stop respecting them nor do i like them any less...i guess i should get used to it though. i don't think a lot of my extended family really understands my career path or my political beliefs and how they were formed. i think they just assume that i'm a homeless vagabond who hasn't had a job since moving out of iowa in 2006 and somehow i'm a drain on the system even though i've busted my ass for the last 7 year. even when i was only doing what i could to scrape by, i've never once been a drain on the welfare or healthcare system...even though i certainly was low enough on the income side once or twice. its all good though...i still like me :)

half my family is extremely liberal... the other half is quite conservative christian... thanksgiving dinner gets heated sometimes. I sit back and watch these days.

So yesterday the wife and I took a trip to Burlington to pick up some jeep parts 97-01 with a couple older parts. Well we ended up leaving with a van FULL of parts. Lots of electrical interior and engine compartment, full dashes with heater controls and everything else, lots of switches custom and stock, cv axleshafts, 87-90 waggy header panel fully loaded with wiring also, gas tank, door panels, steering columns, steering wheels, air bags, center councels, and the list keeps going. Now to get it sorted and ready for sale. lol

Loved ones are able to cut the deepest, but in the end, your last comment is the one that matters.

If you don't like yourself, you can be a rock star but you will never be satisfied with you accomplishment.

I believe that is correct.

I have a friend with an H2 and said he was interested in an H1 at one point, the price (internet price) seemed good for an H1.

well, I was thinking you. don't you have an arb?

anyhow, I made an educated guess. We will see if it works.

I do, but it's a 44. I didn't install it.

The fitting is drilled on the driver's side of the housing on the top.

I'm not sure if it's any different on a 30. Just make sure the copper line is routed well so you don't eat it up with the gears.

Did you have to remove the whole carrier to put it in on yours? Guess i'm really in no rush for mine to be in. As long as its in before winter fest i'm good.

The center pin on my wont fit past the ring gear on my 3.73 gears so in my case it did.

It's not that hard to pull a 30 apart...as long as you'll had the hubs off before and reassemble with grease or anti sleeze.

Wonder how much difference there is between 3.55's and 3.73's. Might have to pull the cover off one weekend and check it out.

Nice score on the gas can dan.
