Finally got the Spartan and my MTRs installed and took the Heep home last night for its maiden voyage... Wow I have some issues to resolve in steering...
I turn and it still goes straight, until I turn some more (In 2wd mind you)... Going to tighten up the gearbox to see if that fixes it.
I have some popping/cracking sounds when I steer. First time I found out it was the pitman arm, so I replaced my ZJ arm with a TJ arm. Still doing it. Going to eliminate some possibilites via the following:
Weld TB bracket to frame.//Tighten TB bolts then spot weld them to prevent movement.//Install steering gear stabilizer I got from Dan.//Install proper length bolts on gearbox (stock are too short after Durango Box install w/spacers)...
If this doesn't work, I'm going to look for a new WJ P.S. pump and a new Gearbox...

Hubs are new timken units less than 6mo old. Checked u joints when I had the front apart for the Spartan and all are tight and greased.

When I put the durango box in a year ago, i made a steering gear spacer from some 3/16 plate and 1in round stock. I also have the JCR bumper tie-in brackets (new version with the additional pieces) on there. So unless I still managed to crack it??

Will Do, did some testing while sitting in drive-threw getting lunch, I def know now the TB is part of the problem, so I wanna tackle that project first and then see where I'm at.

I cracked mine droppin the bumper on a rock. Also started ripping the ripping at the track bar frame mount at the same time. I'd give it a good look over

Found the issue.
Track bar mount on axle is wallowed out. Moves about 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch... Time to find a 10mm drill...

It's an 83 CJ with the body and frame from an 87 YJ? Doesn't the body and frame pretty much mean its a YJ?

I actually had someone around to help me check what was loose/popping/cracking today and what-do-you-know, it was that mount. I'm debating if I should just drill a hole in-front of it, or build some plates and weld them in...
