Important

I have a great job. Except when everybody in management has their heads up their asses or are under the desk of the next higher supervisor.

"sure, Saturday shouldn't be a problem to take off"

"umm, you're not on the vacation calendar and now there's 8 guys ahead of you, you need to plan on working Saturday"

Yes or no. Sure, I would be disappointed with a 'no' last week, but now I'm f'n pissed.

so are you gonna make it or not?

Gotta ask, who puts it on the vacation calendar?

As long as we have staff to cover, my boss doesn't care about vacation as a rule. And if someone needs time off on short notice, we've been able to cover it pretty well.

I watched them put me on the calendar, somebody took it off.

This all came up today because I got a note in my mail box that I'm going to be training a new guy starting Saturday, I told them that would be difficult because I wasn't going to be working Saturday.

I have about 40 guys that work for me, I keep a calendar, if I don't I could run out of people to do the work.

They have rules they have to follow to even submit, if they follow the rules they get what they request 99% of the time. In Dan's case he would have been able to look at the calendar and know someone else was already scheduled so he wouldn't even have asked.

THAT would just irritate the daylights out of me.

They said wait till tomorrow and they will let me know. F them!

:dunno:

I packed my car this morning.

We are so short on people and they won't hire anymore that getting days off is harder and harder.

If I had any other skills and could get another m-f job that would pay what I'm making I would do it in a heartbeat.

Working the weekends all the time sucks.

mac 'off on fmla for the baby' gyvr

Why do teachers need an internet connection? I thought they were supposed to be teaching.

Our network is run by a bunch of idiots that contracted the navy with the lowest bidder. I can't get to anything internet radio, fantasy sports, games or anything like that to save bandwith. Which is what it should be.

But I can get on youtube and facebook

A lot of my stuff is now web based, from training and record books to technical publications for the aircraft. Even requesting engineering support and parts information from supply is web based. I hate it with a passion. I'm part of the largest expeditionary force in the world and I can't do my job unless there's a computer and an internet connection in front of me. Kind of hampers my mobility to go take over medium size countries.

Shouldn't be to bad. I'm towing with a 4.9L 5-speed with 2.73 gearing. I don't even use 5th. Next week I'm getting an 8.8 with 3.55's should help out alot.

JIM.

I was towing with the 5.0l and 3.55s. I didn't use 5th gear still. Ran between 3k and 4k at 65mph.

This is what we have also and there are 10 of us.

Two of my classes are highly independent work/research situations where the students essentially teach themselves. But we also use it for videos, current articles, networking with other classes at sister-schools, etc...

Our district highly encourages the use of technology in the classroom; an example, I have my students spend a day using their phones, laptops, etc to research their small engines before they actually begin dissasembly.

We can police all we want, but the students will always find a way, so why not take advantage of that and utilize their keen abilities with that technology and integrate it into the classroom.

On another note, looking for some inexpensive shocks for the Ford... Mine look like they been on there for 6-7yrs and I get the bounce on rough roads...

Sorry, we'll just have to agree to disagree. Having students "teach themselves" using the internet as a research base or streaming videos from youtube isn't taking advantage of their technological abilities, it's the result of lazy teachers.

You work within the system you're given. I'm not suggesting you're lazy. But if the system as a whole is basically a study hall with a bunch of computers in it, there's no wonder we suck at education.

My first college engineering class was how to draw circles on a piece of paper. I knew there were CAD programs and computers to do that stuff for me, but I learned HOW and WHY before I got to use them. Kind of like teaching math before giving a student a calculator.

What do you do with the students that can't afford gadgets? Are they provided for?

My dad told me about a lady who came into the computer store trying to buy powerpoint because her 3rd grader had to do a presentation for school. The parents were told to provide because the school didn't have the resources. That's not free public education, that's education for people who can afford it.

I need more sleep. I'm grumpy.

I wouldn't say we disagree, but trying to explain how these courses work, or how I utilize it in the classroom would require writing a small book on the subject and I don't want to do that on here. I'll just leave at we promote it, utilize it, and work with it as best we can with what we are given.

Nifty page, Ken. A little work to set up, should run nicely by itself.
Yeah, MRTG and the various other packages used to set that page up are really awesome. I love it.

Maybe, maybe not. It's also possible that somebody is downloading directly to servers.... or those servers have been pwned. Shoot, I've heard of an oscilloscope that got pwned and was running as a porn server at a national high energy lab. Only reason it was caught was because the experiment on that network segment was down, and this thing was spewing packets.
I got a DDoS aimed at a friend's webserver shut down after the perp came on IRC to boast about it. He was using a pwned system at aps.anl.gov (one of their webservers) under the root account... emailed their abuse contact and it was down a few hours later :)

I always chuckle when I see a 'scope running Win98 in a lab with an ethernet card and a "Y2K ready!" sticker on the side. Fortunately, the network at Intel was fairly well secured and none of that stuff could even be put on it without a security audit... our lab was on its own sandbox network anyways.
