TH he got a timken one for $33 off ebay...try to find something like that deal on timkens if you have the time.

I need a hub now...it will be a spare when I get a chance to rebuild the front with newer parts but there is a baby coming in the next couple weeks and I need something other than the work car and driving my truck.

That must have been a one time deal cause back in April I replaced my hubs with timken and the cheapest I could find was rock-auto like $65ish a piece...

Changed the radiator, and changed a freeze plug out on the tow rig today. I hate doing freeze plugs when the engine is in the vehicle!!

Got the old hub off...bolts were seized in the knuckle...might be able to just reuse this hub...have to drill the bolts out now...

Bad hubs will kill you faster on road then off.

Replace them with quality Timken units and be done.

I am not going to keep telling you this.....

i go cheap on lots of things but hubs are one of the few thats worth the $$$

I don't own an air hammer...and really don't like using one...probably because I've never be taught how to use one properly...

Heat and hammer is what I would do. Maybe hold a punch with vice grips and beat them through.

looks like you could use a new knuckle now... how much material did you take off there while cutting the bolts?

If the one I found on the porch recently is the one you need (I have a driver side) I can try to send it out via the express next time altrocker is up here... if he ends up up here again.

Serious disagreement with this statement.

Every single catastrophic on-road Jeep related hub failure incident I have read about has started with, 'He just came back from wheeling and broke a front axle. He removed it to get home'.

As you are aware, the hub assembly as you buy it from the store has the bearings pressed in for assembly purposes, they are not road safe in this condition. What makes the whole thing safe is the outer stub shaft installed and torqued to the proper value. This prevents the outer bearing, which is attached to the wheel hub, from walking out and killing you at speed.

It has nothing at all to do with the Brand of bearing.

Lesson: If you do break an axle and do not have a replacement, if you want to live, you will leave the outer axle installed and torqued to the proper value.

I have heard of that happening but don't recall if the axle had been removed... but yes, stubs&hubs required with a broken d30.

were talking about a major bearing here that is supporting weight on a steering axle...the cheap ones dont last in my experience.

I know how to change sources on each slider, where to control the monitor volume, and a few other things. In a few weeks, I will be using it for work.

Yea, that sucks when they drop in. Sometimes they are easy to fish out, and sometimes they aren't. I just hate doing them in the vehicle because there isn't any room to swing a hammer.

I know I'm just a dumb jarhead airplane mechanic, but I need to know how you use an air hammer to get a threaded bolt out of a threaded hole.

your assuming the only hub failure is the wheel falling off....not so. Any idiot can keep the wheel from falling off


i'm talking about lower quality bearings locking up under normal use.... it wont kill you but it does create a safety hazard on the road. or they become loose and create bad tire wobble etc. cheap UB's are too good to be true IMO, ive seen the results (and towed them home)
