In the last 2 days I've gone through 15 tapes... All are worthless, nothing on them or the tape falls apart.

hmm...okay, i understand your dilemma now. i agree with wheeler...give briggs a call and see if they have someone that would help. you could also call a local community college or tech school and explain your situation. they may have materials they could loan or copy for you. they may even have updated materials on power point or on digital copy. obviously they aren't going to give you their whole program, but higher ed schools are usually good about helping schools that may provide them with recruits when they graduate.

there is a HUGE push for STEM programs in the state and i know in iowa there is a lot of money/resources out there available for it. hell right now if you enroll in a welding program at a tech school or cc you are basically guaranteed a job here with john deere or vermeer. i just did a two day conference about it a few months ago...i wish it was more recently, i could have grabbed some info for you.

also can i please come to your school and take your classes...those all sound badass. i know your still in an under appreciated field, but i am slightly jealous of your job even though i am in no way qualified to do it.

We have 2 types of diesel mechs at our JD and Case dealers..good, and suck. Nothing in between.

Oh, the joys of finding the right parts. Looks like my 99 Dodge might actually have a 2000 fuel tank. Which would explain why I haven't been able to get the right fuel tank level sender....

Was my PM helpful at all? I know I threw a lot of info at you, but I'm sure you're familiar with all the parts necessary to have an operating AR.

Your list wasn't overwhelming, it's all the companies out there making the same parts that is. Everyone seems to have their own idea of who makes the best lower or who makes the best upper or who make the best trigger group. I still gotta do a whole lot more reading to do before I start dropping dead presidents.

I would really like to find a nice, present-day curriculum for Small Engines... I'm fighting a battle with overheads and VHS tapes... But of course I have no $$$ to purchase a curriculum kit from, lets say Briggs, etc...

How much is the curriculum kit?? I seem to remember a friend who owned a small engine shop sponsoring a kit to the local high school from Briggs, and he said it was next to nothing for cost.

Pretty cool day.

Fiancee's Uncle just gave me a 1990 Ford Ranger 4x4 stick with a 6'-6" Meyer plow. Needs brake lines, tires and probably leaf spring mounts. :clap:Get this setup running good enough I may pull the plow off my Jeep.

On another note I was cutting some firewood and clearing some trails by me and had a 8 point buck get within 40 yards of me while running the saw. First decent buck I've seen here in 7 years or more.

I also found an old Stihl chain saw on the other side of an old downed log. Not sure of the model number but it has a tiny 12" bar on it. It's been out here for a few years, but does have compression. I will pull the carb and clean it this winter as long as theere is compression there's a chance.

Also look into the NHRA as a sponsor. Large Racing Associations love to tell folks that they "Gave Back" to the community.

Last time I checked, every single JR Dragster is powered by a 5hp Briggs engine. They even make racing blocks for folks who want to make a 25-30hp out of that same platform. The JR Dragster program is big money for both the NHRA and Briggs.

These has to be tons of multi-media, paper, and power point presentations on the web and other reasonably prices sources. Small engines are not exactly rocket science. Heck, if those are too complicated, start with COX .049s Nothing like a 2 stroke psuedo diesel to stroke the imagination
