Wheel at Badlands, do the easy stuff. I mean, things happen on the trails, but I have wheeled there that i would have never thought I would have been in my XJ on green during Winterfest. I did chicken out, but regret that decision now. Badlands also has a shop on site, the Carquest in town will open up if you need parts if they are closed and they carry stuff that other parts stores wouldn't carry (like flexible brake line that Napa in town doesn't carry). I have flat leaf springs on the back of my XJ but plan on doing some things there again as is in my XJ.

Oh, and my XJ is my one and only vehicle. Other then re attaching a fender flare and some new beauty marks, it has came out of the park unscathed.

Aaron, keep in mind where you live, the size of your driveway, where you're going to park that big SOB, price of a trailer, the extra insurance+registration, etc.

That's been my limiting factor. I've gotta figure out where to park the trailer, which shouldn't be a huge issue. Now that Its just my brother and I, I can have an extra vehicle but you're right, Burb's are HUGE!!! The insurance/registration is no big deal. Like you said though, I'd have a hell of a time parking that thing in my driveway. This isn't gonna be an overnight thing, just seeing them in a price range I can afford makes the gears in my head turn.

you just have to exercise some restraint.

^This. I see guys all the time driving like maniacs after driving them there. It would be different if these were fairly built Jeeps but the guys I see doing this usually don't have anything but a lift and some tires. The reason mine looks fairly nice still is because I don't wheel like a tard. I do have a lot of scratches now though......Thanks Rev! :moon:

Yep, its my dd can't afford to be without

Mine's a DD and I've driven it 5 hours to Harlan for the past 3 years.

Borrow a trailer. Works for me. Hale co-owns his trailer with a buddy IIRC.

Having a warm, dry place to sleep is worth the extra hassle, especially at WF when the tents were blowing over from the wind. If you build your Jeep properly the 1st time and carry spares, driving to-from isn't a huge deal. Like Nate said, you can't get stupid with it.

I guess what my issue is, is getting out of the comfortable zone areas, I drives it to and from all the close parks, haspin, big maples, etc they are all within 1.5 hrs, close enough that if something bad happens I know I can get home, being many hours away will make it hard to get home ya know, I'm gonna do my best to make it to Dans and to badlands in the spring. Wish you all lived closer so we could wheel together often, we are suppose to go to haspin Saturday

Ask Flex, Josh, Tyler, some of the others, I usually drive 3hrs+ to do any wheeling. Winterfest is a 10+ hour drive for me and I drive the Heep to and from... Next weekend I'm wheeling Apple Valley (2hr20min) and then the first weekend of Sept I'm visiting Dan in MI, another 10+ hour drive...

Don't be afraid of your rig, like I was, when I first started. It can handle much more than you think and do so extremely well. Carry the typical spare (u-joints, shafts, maybe a TPS and coil, etc...) and you should be fine.

Another thing I like about wheeling with the rest of these yahoos, we don't leave a man behind.

99SJ 'w/5.5in lift long drive are going to be interesting' Ex

Oh I'm not afraid, I built it all, just on a very tight budget since I got laid off and can't afford an expensive tow bill,

Mud. Alcohol allowed while on the trail. Mud. ATVs, dirtbikes, lawnmowers w/ farm tires; drivers all hammered. Mud. Been once and will never go again.

Lol I haven't run across it much only on the big even weekends, which I stay away from, that place is a blast when its dry, and it has been very dry. And where we usually go we don't see many bikes at all barely see other rigs other than who we are with

I know a guy that frankenstein'd a transfer case to drive home 8 hours the next day from tellico.

Either you want to wheel or you don't. There's nothing wrong in saying you don't. Excuses just complicate the problem.
