Important

Just took me a second to find them. :D

This is what I have in the photobucket, if you want I'll cruise out to the garage and get one with the hood popped.

My FireRing cable came with a little P-clip that I used to hold it onto the ledge between the fender and wheelhouse when I turned it parallel to the body gap so the bends were nicer.

You know what... I'll just get an actual picture later.

My 10 year class reunion is in June.........damn Its been 10 years already?

I prefer the performance that I have with a solid mount and my radio.

Pics to come for you. Waiting for Justified to come on.

My ford windstar van is about to die. I know it has a headgasket out, missing on cyl #3 and and the code for a bad egr valve. I really don't want to put anymore money into my pos van. The downside is most days I'm driving 30-45mins and can't afford to drive the XJ every day. The upside is I get to drive the jeep.

Parakeet

Alright, the mount itself is universal so it's not anything special.

The cable does not make contact with the hood, and I ran it in through the grommet as pictured. I put a couple of washers under the front screw so the mount sits level. The white piece is the P-clip included with the cable. The dirtiness around the mount is dusty RTV that I used to just seal it all up. I did tweak the pinch lip on the hood very slightly to clear the screw heads. The little bit of "un-trueness" is in the aerial itself not in the base.

If you would like, I can store with the rest of the "store" after winterfest. Up to you.
That would be pretty sweet! Thanks!

I prefer the performance that I have with a solid mount and my radio.

I've made 6 mile transmissions (no direct line of sight) with my mag mount. I don't think I need performance beyond that.
May also be noted that I have never done any kind of SWR tuning.

But, each to their own.

Josh you may just be lucky and have it nailed for that channel. Everyone should check their SWR even if you don't need it past a couple hundred feet (ie: WF) as it can be damaging to the radio.

My best transmission (and receive) that I attempted for the pure purpose of determining distance has been at 10 miles with a fresh SWR tune from a 4w base station on Military Ave (Green Bay) to the Brown Rd exit on 41. Still nice and clear at that point too, and that's all the further I cared to check it.

I have my setup this way for communicating larger distances in the Keweenaw to off roaders and logging trucks.

I did not know that... But I did a little research and figured out why.

Also, I don't know if my antenna length should/can be changed since it doesn't have the coils around it, it's just a whip type. Though, it would make sense seeing whips without the little ball on the tip like mine.

Mag mounts are base loaded too, just in the base. In a whip style it's adjusted by sliding the whip up and down in the base with set screws. In fiberglass antennas generally there is a threaded screw in the tip.

Giving it more thought, I'm remembering the set screw in the spring portion of my whip.

Might be getting a motorcycle for free. Co worker don't know if it runs. If it doesn't, gives me something to tinker on to get going. Then use it in summer to save money on gas.

On my old CJ, I replaced the computer carb with a 350 Holly, but you also need to replace the ignition to with something like with an MSD.

The only electronic anything on the carb is the choke. I've cleaned up some of the rats nest of vaccuum lines. Rebuilding the turkey carb is the last thing to do to see if its worth trying to save the 2-bbl. intake set-up or just bite the bullet and blow the cash on a 4-bbl set-up. I thought about doing one of the TBI kits and junking the 100 year old half-working carb crap. But that is WAY more money than is available right now.

I drive semi for my living, I have twin 'glass antennas on my truck and I can reach out and touch. My Wilson mini-mag on my trail rig I never have the need to put out over 100 yards.

'glass antennas will easily break while wheeling, mag mounts will detach before breaking.

CB's are really a thing of the past, even while working it is rare to find intelligence on the other end of the mic.

This is my opinion, I'm not saying there is no other way to skin a cat.
