Important

I am a pro at sleeping through multiple alarms going off for hours :(

On my phone, I have it set to start off silent but vibrating and increasingly get louder. I have yet to sleep through it. Only a few times I set it wrong.

They brought our newest engine by the plant today to show it off.

Its a 95 liter engine with 16 cylinders, 4 turbos, produces 4000hp@ 1800 rpm and can generate 3.1Mw of power when used in a genset. Its used in trains and Mining applications.

I set four alarms on my cell phone...but i due to working two jobs and rotating days off its rare that I wake up at the same time two morning (or afternoons) in a row...its making me old.

Bounder is winterized.

Went to start it to let it run and it fired right up. Went inside the house to take a dump and much to my disappointment it was still there and didn't catch on fire. Maybe next time.

Engine builder for the 4.7 v8 of dad's Jeep says that he wants to make the motor right...he's still claiming that he doesn't think that its internal.

The dealer said that cyl 1 and 3 were misfiring. Both had 10 psi less compression than spec numbers. #1 failed the leak down test by 20% to 25%. #3 had scarred up cylinder walls.

He still claims that the motor was built right...but offered to fix it as long as it was something done that he built. If something else we pay shop labor rates. I told him to call me before it costs me money.

I'm taking it down there Monday morning.

Jeep and a couple motors went to the scrapyard today. Now to take a day off tomorrow and get some ice fishing in. :D

Still have the gas tank from the scrapped Jeep? I have someone that's interested.

Where's the ice thick enough? My small 4 acre lake by me only has only 1.5" of ice. My feet were wet yesterday.:gag:

So what's it going to be used for? Working for the RR I am around these almost daily. Although most of ours are slightly smaller at 3000hp 2 strokes in EMD SD-40s.

Rail and power gen, especially offshore drilling, will be the primary goal. Cool thing is the 4,000 HP is the low end of its capability. Power gen will probably see optional higher outputs. Looking forward to them adding 4 more cylinders in the coming years.

4,000 HP

28,000 pounds

Each cylinder has the same displacement as a 5.9 B-Series

Big "I've seen bigger, but this thing is pretty cool" Hank

That is pretty big for a high-speed diesel.

Of course, I've seen low-speed diesels with crankcases so large you could drop that block into a single crank sump...

Yeah, listen to the emissions solutions guy! The QSK120 is supposed to produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6000hp on 20 cylinders!

Yeah thats a little guy compared to some. It even passes 2015 emissions standards!
