Important

iirc the 70 comes in many flavors, including some really old ones from the 60s? 70s? that are old coarse spline and/or have a different ring gear offset on the carrier that no one makes gears for. So some are basically worthless and others are nice. You can also find full float smoothbottom rear 60s with disc brakes that don't need their spindles bored to fit 35sp shafts under... iirc E350 vans made up till the mid 00s (which still have them after that, but are metric bolt pattern.)

If you don't care if it's a full float rearend you can also find semifloat 60s under the rears of e250s from the same period. All reasonably plentiful and well priced.

I need the reg 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern and full float. Most of the semi floats are wide 5 lugs...

Group 34/78? Is that the battery that will work in an XJ?

I *think* an e350 rear from those years will do the trick for you.

I should note they don't come stock with 35 spline shafts, they just have large enough spindle bores to handle them without boring them out.

Haven't been to my Dr office in over 3 years. Called today to get an appointment. They now consider me a new paitent... Have to fill out all the same crap from when I was a new paitent and jump through some hoops. The upside is the new Dr I saw is a woman with small hands. Getting to that age that that matters....

You can test a TPS in the Jeep or out. I pull the sensor off and hook it up to an analog multimeter set to Ohms. Turn the shaft and watch the needle. Smooth is good, jumpy is bad.

I think Group 58 is standard, although a lot of folks seem to be running 34/78 Optimas. The last few years of XJs apparently got a larger tray to take a 34 battery, or at least that's what I've read. Mine has a 58 in it. I haven't tried to cut the tray down to take a 34, but I've read on here that folks have done that too.

For those of you that remember me having my pile quit on me a few weeks ago... the CKP sensor didn't fix it. Figures. It wasn't that old, I was banking on the probability and that failed me. I think Mac guessed coil and that was it. The $60 spent with Rock Auto didn't take me as far as the $18 spent with Advance. Well, they're both new. Check that off the next failure list.

As for the iGirlfriend thing, be careful when you plug into the device. Your male adapter needs a protector or the iBaby fees will tear your wallet a new port.

Had to trim the battery tray to fit mine. took about 5 minutes with a dremel.

I went from the battery size that was stock in the '97 to a '99 spec. A few minutes on the tray with a dremel and flipping the hold down to accommodate the taller battery. Gained me some amperage and RCM.

MAC is good at diagnosing coils 200 miles away

If you own a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep you should carry a coil in your glove box.

I've had two fail on me over the years.

I was thinking that I got a 34/78 to fit in the popcan back in the day...but couldn't remember. I've been meaning to put a good battery in it for sometime, but the battery that was in the baby jeep when I bought it has lasted longer than I ever expected.

Rew, I don't know if you plan on DD'ing or anything like that, if so then I would say hold out for a 4x4, it's nice to have an extra 4x4 to get around in the winter with. I plan to let mine sit around unless I'm actually towing anything, and convinced myself for the price I got that I wouldn't care if it was 2WD. I may change my mind after the first time I drive it in snow or mud.

My truck is my DDer and it's 2wd, and I'm fine with it. I like the 22MPG. First and foremost I bought is as a people mover(crew cab), then it's an odd jobber around the house and last but not least a tow rig (which does not happen very often). I've never had and issue with it being 2wd. Drive it like a 2wd truck and you'll be fine. If the weather gets totally horrible, my XJ is still streetable and I'll drive it for a few days until the weather clears.

Good luck on your decision.

EDIT:
Before anyone throws sticks at me........22mpg is the best I have gotten on the highway. Around town I get around 14-16 depending how I drive. Towing the Jeep is around 11mpg.

This would be primary a DD, actually i would still probably drive the jeep to the trails as long as it is streetable. i just want another pick up and it has to be big enough to haul the family, that's why i was looking at quad cabs. the F150's quad cab seem to be fricking golden around here, we had a couple here that the used car manager said he wont even sell to an employee.

i just talked to the guy that traded it in, he told me what he has got for the trade and all the details on it. i guess it has to sit for 60 days for me to get it at cost. so we will see if it is still here in a little over a month.

edit: he said he was pulling 20's highway, he ordered it with 3.91 gear

Anyone done rotors and brakes on a 2000 Honda Accord?

A guy at work asked me to do it and I'm hoping it won't be a PITA...

I have an 03 1500, with the 5.9, 4x4, I used it as a tow rig to wf last year and it towed fine...

I like the truck cuz we bought it right, but the heater door is broke ($700 fix at dealer) and it sets with a f'd tranny now. But other than it having premature rust issues (fixed with bushwackers) and it not moving (by it setting I forget it only gets 13 mpg), I really like the truck.

My Tahoe is 2 wd and I love it. I live in central MI and rarely NEED 4wd. It is a great tow rig.

Don't get too hung up on having 4wd.
