Important

4-7 inches in central indiana by tomorrow afternoon, Looks like the tow strap will be getting a work out if my brother hits the road!

Thanks guys. He actually asked me to start on his new front winch bumper this morning..I asked why now? He said if things were to be bad he wants his rig done and wants to go on an awesome wheeling trip with me. I had a hard time holding back the tears on that one. I am ordering steel today.

Man, bro...this is tough. You had me a little choked up just from reading that. Thoughts and prayers. Hoping this works out the way we want.

So I got in the Grand Prix this morning to go to work. When I backed out of the driveway, the power steering wasn't doing it's job. I figured it had something to do with it being so damned cold, but I've got a nice leak in one of the lines. If I'm right as to which line it is, it's a return line that I spliced some hose into a while ago. Hopefully I can get this fixed up soon.

my truck had a dead battery yesterday so after getting a new one last night it is going through the "relearn" process that GM's do for the idle etc...it sucks, wants to die each time you stop...it eventually learns again and will be fine, but sucks in the mean time. Next I am running down the cause of the "Reduced Engine Power" message I am randomly getting. The code says it is the sensor in the foot feed to the throttle, but all the boards I have read say that is a false code and it is like $500-700 to replace and it wont fix the prob. I am checking into different leads I have read up on. Like taking out the overly oiled K&N filter, the ground on the block, battery, wiring harness connections etc...fun shit I tell ya...

Cheese "glad I have a heated shop" Man

Yeah, heated shops are nice. Good thing my boss is em(pathetic) to my situation and is allowing me to bring it in around an hour before close to knock it out. Heated shop, air supply (compressor, not the band) though *I'm all outta love* for no power steering, a nice lift...Some of the fringe benefits aren't too bad.

alot of people think wheeling is stupid until they actually go out there

Absolutely! I love taking new people out wheeling. I don't know if people have this preconception about rednecks and mud trucks, or what, but everyone I take out to the Badlands seems to have a great time thinking we might roll over and die at some point.

Heated shop is where it's at. I haven't really worked on anything in months, and actually got some real wrenching done last night.

Had a Trailblazer in the shop a few weeks back with the same issue. Tried an accelerator pedal switch with no success, ended up being a clogged catalytic converter. It threw the same code you're describing. Chevy trucks of your era had problems with the cats clogging up and causing those symptoms.

I think you should just sell it to me and call it good :D

Your brother is also in our prayers. Anything you need give me a call.

So im going to look at an 88 RX7 w/93k after work. guy wants $750 for it. Said it runs good, shifts smooth, also its a rare 2+2 and has a mooroof, all wheel discs, an LSD, power steering and Air. It all works too! Much better than the civic I was gonna buy! Also it os rust free and has one dent in the fender. Autocross here I come! Anybody know a damn thing about rotary engines?

Yes, a tiny little bit. Replacing seals in a rotary is $$$$.

My first reaction is why would a low milage 88 RX7 only be $750? Second reaction is that the seals need to be replaced.

Yeah, I'd say the same thing. Those things need the seals changed a bit too frequently for my taste.

Okay, I'll get on letting the guys know on all the Mazda sites that you'll be there soon. More of a warning that you'll be coming. :D

What's a good indication that they need changed? I have known the dude since first grade, so I hope he wouldn't hide that fact from me. He wants to get rid of it quick to buy another civic and he said for anyone else its $1400. I already told him I wont promise that I will buy it but I am interested. I will slide by his house and give it a look.

I'm a moron, that is all.

Riiiiiiight. We're gonna let you leave it at that. You already said something, might as well let it out. Unless it's too personal, then I understand. But you can't tease like that with your being a moron being the main subject.

Ok fine I'll spill.

I bought a 97 2 door XJ sport with a 5-speed transmission. Dealer wanted $1,900 for it. I went out and took it for a test drive. It drove really nice and handled well. I went to shift into 4wd and the shifter didn't do anything, the linkage must have been diconnected. No big deal I can hook that up when I get home. The salesman says I have to be stopped to engage it in 4wd which is obviously wrong. Didn't even think a thing about it. I look under it, keep in mind its 3* outside and snow on the ground. Has a D30/D35. We settle on a price. $1,450 for the jeep, $1,700 out the door CASH.

I get it home and try to take some pics. I get on the trailer and look under it. There is no effin' transfer case or front DS!!! You'd think after being around jeeps for 6 years and owning two of them I would take the time to ensure it had a TC. Now I gotta see if the dealer will a) take it back or b) give me some of my cash back so I can buy a TC and front DS

Don't beat yourself up over it. I've done my fair share of stupid buys. It's easy to get so used to being around Jeeps (and 4x4 ones at that), that you could assume if it has a handle then it's 4x4. Worst case you gotta throw a transfer case in it.

And change the transmission tailhousing, I guess. Hmmmm.... yea maybe I'd be taking it back.

my god, that really blows man.

did they ever say it was 4wd? If so, threaten court...

I would not bother trying to get some money back, bring it back and leave with your money if you can. You will need a new output shaft and tailhousing for the transmission to put that transfer case on it.

Wait a sec...... tcase shifter and *NO* tcase? And if the salesman indicated that it can go into 4wd, I'd be all over somebody.

From what I remember, it should smoke with bad seals. Been far too long since I read anything about rotaries, so it very well could be me blowing smoke and not the engine.
