I agree, even if you said "looking for Cherokee, $1000 in hand" some sales guy is going to read that as "this guy needs a car and only has $1000 to spend."

I can't imagine any Cherokee being on a dealer's lot for $1000, let alone an 01. Sounds too good to be true, to me. If they have some $5000 vehicle sitting there and they want you to finance, ask the sales guy to take a reading comprehension class. Also, show up with your truck and trailer, that lets them know you're serious. :D

Seriously though Brendan, if you snag an 01 for that cheap, that will be deal-of-the-century material!

Well I went to look at it, and it was certainly what I was looking for. Patriot Blue XJ Sport - 172K on the clock, front end was clean. Doors looked good and interior was clean enough. It started up fine and ran well. Some of the wiring on the drivers side lower a-pillar looked splice together (most likely for aftermarket speakers). Had factory fog light, cruise control, etc. I offered the salesman $1,200 he said that they were going to send it to auction because the head manager thought he could get $2,500 for it (no way it would or should go that high).

I talked to a buddy of mine who is the sales manager at another local dealership told me to give the salesman a call, offer $300 - $400 over what I initially offered and I may be able to pick it up on the cheap before it goes to auction.

Either way $1,500 to $1,600 for that XJ is still a steal and is definitely worth the money.

very pleased with how the new 2dr is driving. drives nice. im gonna fix the rear, it sits alittle lower that the front. been thinking about lifting it with v6 thunderbird coils. anybody done that?

There's no way in hell they're going to get $2500 at auction. If they get 2K out of it they then have to pay auction fees, a kid $50 to transport it plus fuel. If that DID sell @ auction the buyer would have to put it on their lot for 3K or more. With the miles on it, they'll never get it.

These dealers think XJs are gold and that people will pay stupid prices for them. I agree...no way it goes for $2500.

I dont think it will either, the salesman says he almost guarantees it will come back. I went back and offered him $1500 cash for it (i pay taxes on it as well) and they still think they will get $2500 for it. I felt like I was more then fair with my "re-offer". I'll find out mid-week next week if it ended up selling at auction.

I think that's what Brad and Neal did to Neals XJ. I hear the thing rides good too.

call dan

If I were closer I'd love to.

My problem is that I shop around a lot and do tons of research so I know exactly what I want and in 99% of the cases I know way more about the car then the actual salesman or the dealership as a whole knows about the car, I just cant turn that knowledge into a lower price for some reason.

well, my dreams of full width axles are gonna be delayed...ass bag sold them even though I told him I would be down to get them with cash in hand. Oh well, i suppose from a CL listing he has probably had 20 people say they were coming and none showed up and first one there with cash won. I will still do the swap sometime, but this was really in my current price range....

I looked at an 00 at a local dealer that was a trade in. I posted it in here, it went for higher than I thought at the auction for some reason. Tho is wasn't as high as they thought. I think it was $2000, similar to the one your looking at brendon...someone could wade through these posts and see what the numbers were...

mac 'they think they are gold up here too' gyvr

yeah... my general approach is "first one there with cash wins" unless someone I know offers to buy. I don't hold stuff for craigslist chuckleheads anymore, 75% of em bail 15 minutes before the arranged meeting or simply flake out completely and I never hear from them again.

Just happened to me here on NAXJA actually, the guy has flaked on multiple people I know in the past but I figured I'd give him a chance. Oh well, he flaked on me too.

I sold my megacab to the first one that showed up to test drive it off of craigslist. I had to hold him off so I could make Winterfest OH'10. I got home on sunday, washed it, detailed it and met him at my bank (bank still had the title) the next morning at 10am. He had over 20k in cash and bought the truck after only driving it up and down the street once.

mac 'didn't ask any questions :) 'gyvr

I think that's what Brad and Neal did to Neals XJ. I hear the thing rides good too.

Coils off of a V6 Cougar. We got about about 3.5" out of them. We just drilled out the strut plates on top and J-bolted them to the coils. I will admit that it rides very nice, certainly nothing to complain about for $20 at the junk yard and under $10 on bolts and a hole saw.

I bet them choppy ass tires are super quiet Andrew! :D
