Important

Good one, Tyler.

I'm definitely getting more Scrooge-like as I get older. I'm in the dog house with one of my sisters, I'm not heading back for my family's Christmas this year. Deb & I have traveled for Christmas pretty much every year that I can remember, it's time to just stop and enjoy it ourselves.

<growf> and I've apparently killed my monitor downstairs, so I need to go & buy a new one. Not really a show stopper, but blasted annoying.

We only buy gifts for parents and a few little ones. We donate to a different charity each year for what we would have spent on other gifts.

I'm donating money to myself for a Queen mattress! :D I gotta get my little cousin something for our gift exchange and I gotta get my dad and a few other people gifts. Other than that, Its just about seeing family members and friends who are in from out of town.

I am thinking I might take off early today and go see a movie by myself. I wanna see "Faster" with The Rock in it..kind of looks cool and no way in hell Camille will want to go see it with me.

Its sealed but I don't know how well it would hold up on its side. And yeah the odyssey is $350+.

If it's sealed (and it is) then it's good to mount however you want. I am planning on mounting mine sideways in the back. I have seen Odysseys just shy of $300 I believe. The Diehard was as cheap as I could find an Optima and people seem to have less problems with them than the newer Optimas. Just sayin'. I've gone months without starting my Jeep and it's always fired right up. When some a-hole stole stuff out of it and left the door open and drained the battery, I threw it on the charger for a couple hours and it was like brand new.

I am not feeling the holiday stuff at all this year. I don't want anything, and I don't want to play the "figuring out what people want" game. I have told my family to keep it simple this year. It seems like everyone is feeling the same way, so we'll see.

I just called the Electric Coop to see about getting power ran to opur new piece of property and the following is my conversation with the lady that took the call:

them: "hello, NCMO Elec"
me: "I need to speak to someone about getting additional service to our property"
them: "we are closed today"
me: "OK, then why did you answer the phone"
them: "because I am working today"
me: "but I thought you were closed?"
them: "we are, but I am working to answer the phones"
me: "then your open and no one is there?"
them: "no, I am here working but we are closed"
me: "I like nachos"
them: "excuse me?"
me: "Como esta?"
them: "sir, I dont understand what your saying"
me: "is it because I am a minority, is this a racist thing?"
them: ........click.......dial tone......

Sanity in a pretty bottle.

got the jeep all together. put the battery in, turned the key and everything went out. no lights, door dinger, no crank, nothin. i think i got a loose ground somewhere. everything comes on its just when i go to crank it does everything go out
sounds like a bad ground or loose battery terminal, try whacking the starter, etc

this shit is just stupid...I understand saving a few $$, but if most if these people actually figured in the "true cost" involved with these tremendous savings they think they are getting, it is a wash. Take the average income of 15-20 bucks per hour, and then factor in taking the 8 hour day off work and that is approx a cost of $160 plus eating breakfast and lunch out and then the added gas for sitting in traffic half the day....easily pushing $200 before any savings are even accounted for. Now if it is a vacation day someone is taking, yeah they might get paid to be off, but who in their right mind wants to spend a vacation day that way. Yes I have a kid, yes I want them to have a good Christmas, but I work hard throughout the year so I dont have to partake in this madness and I will shop at my leisure. I am going to work today and will probably not see another human until I leave at 4:00 bc everyone thinks we are closed today...which is fine with me.

Cheese "would only partake in black friday if I was drunk and vomiting chinese take-out in front of people" Man
I'm loving that last line, and fully agree. I can't stand rampant consumerism. I almost always made gifts as a kid, many of the ornaments on my parents christmas tree are my work (metalwork, started soldering when I was 9.) Id rather make something than buy something 99% of the time.

Sounds like the time I had a rabid raccoon on the rooftop porch of my last apartment, it was trapped and on a weekend, animal control told us to call the police and the police told us to call animal control, ended up leaving the backdoor to the stairs unlocked and called animal control from work Monday. Was like "hey guys, I'm not there, I assure you the raccoon is and he is not happy about it, doors open merry christmas"

Whew...
Took a three hour guided walking tour of the monument in D.C.
Look up my last post for the info.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!
It is free, the guy works for tips only.
then we drove north east twords the coast and got some kick ass sea food on an island in Chesapeake Bay.
Now I am sitting in the hotel in my underwear again!

Crab cakes in maryland really are better. Don't know why.

If you get a chance, the spy museum is one of the coolest museums in DC.

I think we can thank BP for that

I am a scrooge..I hate this time of year.

I agree...but I hate it because of the shopping and the people. I like the lights :)

My parents never spent more than 50 to 100 bucks on us kids while we were growing up. They still don't spend much on us.

But they did pay half my college.

So my GPS broke wednesday. I had a Garmin nuvi 350. I paid $500 for it in July of 2007. I also bought the 4 year warranty with it at the time for $50. I braved the crowds this afternoon (which wasn't bad) at Best Buy. I got a store credit for my Garmin of $120 bucks. I said, I surely can't replace this for that price (3.5 years since I've shopped for a Garmin)...the lady said, you'll be surprised. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 255wt, was on sale for $99. Got the 3 yr warranty (must know they last just over 3 yrs), and had to pay $5 out of pocket. We'll see how long this one lasts...I bet its not made as good as that ol 350.

I almost shed a tear giving them the old gps, I had 99,200 miles on it and it had taken me a lot of places.

mac 'like an old friend' gyvr

Shoot, my old GPS V is *STILL* running, got it 9 years ago in December. It's been semi-permanently moved to the Heep, the Dodge has a nuvi 1490t now.

got the jeep running. it rund/drives pretty damn good. got it legal this morning. goodbye festiva!

spent a perfectly good day that I could have been building new fence on the new property, but oh no, I had to go to town and have lunch with my sis-in-law (no, she is not even close to hot) and then go ferakin shopping all day with Camille....well, at least I woke up early and worked on Project Red Rocket and made good progress. It is gonna be street legal by Monday.

Absolutely agree with you on the crab cakes. Nothing is as good as a maryland crab cake. I was raised in maryland for 15 years. And what I miss most are the maryland blue crabs, absolutely delicious
