i have been thinking more and more about getting a pistol and a conceal carry permit

looking for gun advice, what caliper, and make should a beginner like my self look at i have shot a couple but i cant remember what they were i know one was a little Beretta 22

i have a cabellas credit card so i might go in and look at them one of these days since im only about 10 min from them

what are you guys carrying?
First & foremost, get something that feels comfortable to YOU. You'll also want to train and practice with it, for concealed carry, you do not want to have to think about the mechanics in the heat of the moment.

And if you've got any suspicion that you may not be able to pull the trigger, think twice about CC.

Jeff is correct there. Get what fits your hand best and as for caliber, there is really nothing wrong with the 9, .40, .45, .357, or .38 all serve their purpose quite well. I Carry a Springfield XD 9mm and I love the gun. Its a very low maintenance gun but if I were to do it again I would get a subcompact to carry. they are a lot more concealable than my service model XD. There are so many choices out there. Check out ingunowners.com Andrew. I go by XDinmyXJ over there.

Just so you know, a 9mm won't kill somebody. :D At least that's what I've been told. Nobody wants to volunteer to prove it though. I went with a smaller caliber (9mm) because I thought I would be more accurate, and because I would shoot it more because the ammo is cheaper. As it turns out, bigger calibers are fairly easy to get used to, and to shoot accurately with. The cheap ammo is still nice, though.

My Sig has a 4" barrel and has a heavy slide and a metal frame. It's almost too big to carry concealed, and the few times I have open carried, I notice that it's pretty damn heavy. Kind of unfortunate given what I paid for the thing. I will probably buy a Ruger LCP as my carrying gun. If you are going to carry (open or concealed, but especially concealed), physical size and weight are definitely things you should be considering as much as caliber and magazine capacity.

and sean, maybe me meant caliper..like maybe he wants his gun to have brakes on it?? :dunno: ever thought of that there wise guy?? :D

I carry a S&W Sigma point four-oh. (.40 Caliber) I bought it becaus it was comfortable in my hands and wallet. $320 out the door. Its been very reliable, easy to shoot, easy to clean and fun. I'm a bit bigger of a guy and even though its a mid-full frame pistol, I conceal it well. I don't really go through a lot of ammo so price doesn't matter to me. Though I do need the practice. I would go to a gun shop over a huge retail store like Cabela's for the personal assistance and advice you will get from a smaller store. A lot of stores will have a range and weapons you can rent to get a feel of which brand, style, frame and caliber size best fits you.
And I've recently learned that Indiana limits you to 10 rounds in a carry weapon, so magazine capacity becomes moot. Unless you're looking at a .45 that only holds 8 or something like that. And I would aim *pun intended* at a semi-automatic over a revolver. Mainly because there's less to do if the revolver is single action. Whatever you like man, different strokes fo sho.

I always thought of you as more "full figured", but you do conceal it well.....:D

Just got this joke in an email...Cowboy Chili: A young cowboy walks into a seedy cafe in Laramie, WY. He sits at the counter and notices an old cowboy with his arms folded starng blankly at a bowl of chili. After 15 minutes of just sitting there staring at it, the young cowboy bravely asks the old cowpoke, "if you ain't gonna eat that, mind if I do?" The older cowboy slowly turns his head towards the young wrangler and in his best cowboy manner says, "Nah, go ahead." Eagerly the young cowboy reaches over and slides the bowl over to his place and starts spooning it in with delight. He gets nearly down to the bottom and notices a dead mouse in the chili. The sight was shocking and he immediately pukes up the chili into the bowl. The old cowboy quietly says, "Yep, that's as far as I got, too."

Hopefully, I'll be purchasing a handgun soon. I've looked at the S&W Sigmas, and I do like them and they fit my hands well. I think I've settled on the Taurus 809 though. It has everything that I want in a pistol and it's reasonably priced. I held a buch of different pistols over the past few months. Find one that feels good to you.

Poke all you'd like at the 9mm round. You won't bother me a bit. I've looked and studied ballistics and I'm happy with it. A 147gr JHP will do everything I need it to do and I'll have 17 rounds to do it with.:D

Picked up a Comanche today.

It's a 1988 MJ Shortbed with the 4cyl manual. It is 2wd though, but I have some plans for it. Best part is that I picked it up for $425 minus a battery.

It's relatively clean for a 22 year old truck, but I think my landlord may hate me now.

NICE FIND!!! If I was not as big as a sasquatch I would have built a MJ by now....

9MM is where it is at..that is why rappers always sing about them in their songs...

I don't dial 911, I dial 1-911... aka, when you care enough to send the very best!

The best firearm you could ever carry is the one you have with you when you need it. I keep a Ruger LCP tucked in my back pocket whenever I have pants on (visualize that). Yeah, it's only a 7 round .380. It's also a lot more manageable than my Glock 22 to carry/conceal and I always have it.

Brendan, you suck. If the XJ ever sells I'll be calling you :D
