Important

I believe we have a winner!! I just got done searching FSC and it seems to be a very common problem. There is a relearn time period for the computer to learn the driving habits etc from. I am going to put a new battery in it regardless, so it will have to relearn again. I also read a bunch of posts that said to clean the TB after the battery replacement so it will be functioning at peak performance during the relearning process. Just want everything to be in top shape before loading up the truck for next weeks vacation and for sure for the Hannibal Rocks trip.
Hmmph. I know I've heard of it happening, but it sounds like a much more common problem on the FSC boards than in my shop. Glad it won't take the cost of a reflash.
make sure you use a MAF sensor friendly cleaner, or remove the MAF entirely. Many expensive sensors have been killed by cleaning, they're very sensitive.

On that engine the maf is up by the air box. It's a good 18" or so away from the TB opening. Everything will just shoot into the manifold.

Meh, I always use carb cleaner and haven't killed one yet. I'm sure there is a reason CLC makes MAF cleaner, but good ol' carb cleaner works like a charm.

This is based on cleaning Ford MAFs, mainly on Crown Vics. The GM sensors may be more sensitive. I know they're definitely more $$.

cant I just use some gas and then use a match to burn the excess off? :explosion:

Hale Yes a Duramax would make a good replacement!! At the rate that Shelter Insurance lieks to work me over, I would probably end up with an Isuzu lowrider as a replacement! :D

Got the Jeep back on the road and Wyfie is going to pick up her van this evening. We will be back to a 3 (usable) vehicle family.

Harmonic balancer wasn't a bad job at all. I did end up replacing the idler pully as well. Probably should have replaced the belt but I was running out of time and didn't have one handy so, It'll have to stay for a while longer.

just got a call from the dump truck driver that was bring me a load of sand, his truck broke down in my back yard.....too bad the sand is still in it or we would leave it in place and jump out of the back into the pool :D

It took my wife's Chevy Blazer around 20-30 miles before it really relearned to where everything was back to normal.

OK so I have a few more questions for you all about my jeep. I am going to post pictures up soon of it since I have failed to do so so far.

I am pretty sure that I have the 8.25 rear end. It is flat on the bottom and it has the rubber plug for the check plug.

First question is that my plug is leaking apprently. Sooooo is there a way to get around the rubber plug (I am going to assume the only way would be to weld in a bung and get a plug or buy an aftermarket cover)?

Second question is how can I tell what gearing I am running? My dodge had a tag in the glove box that told the gearing.

Thanks
Brandon

Being an 01 (I assume by your sn...) and assuming its a 8.25, its most probably 3.55 with 29spline shafts... I do not believe they ran other gears by this time in XJs

Yes it is an 01 and I always forget to mention that. Can I not fill out a signature until I become a member?

How can I be sure that it s the 8.25?

Anyone that was at WF 09 and was in Bob's Green line, if you have any pic of my jeep (probably in the Rock quarry) could you please PM me with them? Looking for pics for ROTM... Thanks

01grn_xj, look for a metal tag attached to the edge of the cover via one or two of the bolts. Somewhere on it (usually in the lower row, toward the left) will be a set of numbers, will be 3 07, 3 55, 3 73, or 4 10 most likely. Simply replace the space with a period and you have your gear ratio.

If there isn't a tag on the rear diff, check the front diff (usually attached to the two cover bolts that straddle the passenger side axle tube) and the ratio should be in the same location on the tag there.

OK I will look at it tomorrow thanks for the tips. My brief look at the rear cover I dont remember seeing a tag on it but I will check again.

No tag on my 97, either- just a sticker on the passenger side tube that has since fallen off. If you've got an automatic and 4.0, it's probably 3.55 gearing, unless it had some peculiar options.

Truck=1, Deer=0

the damn things are running everywhere right now with all the haying going on...it was a little one so it is merely a greasy spot in the road now.
