Live from the truck almost to gray rock, alabama...

Got two buggies in the enclosed thinking its weighed around 13 or 14 haven't weighed it yet...truck is pulling like a dream even in the wind...

Bad news...at 70mph we are turning 2600 rpm with the 4.88 gears...
6.1 mpg...

So if anyone knows of where I can get 4.30 gears for a dana s110 axle for cheap let me know :)

Wow

you may need to start burning peanut oil in that truck!

No joke! Mac, please don't tell me your tow rig has steeper gears than your buggy!

6.1mpg is awful though... I figured even with an enclosed, you'd be getting 9-10ish.

Hopefully by 'back seat is comfy' you mean 'I'm hauling a ton of people around who will be paying for my fuel'.

Well we ride four deep...

The badlands offroad park is actually sponsoring us (perfect time to plug the badlands) and we are grateful for that! However the truck was supposed to get 8mpg towing...

Made it to Alabama...two days of XRRA racing!

Google doesn't come up with much.

Found a couple Ford dealers looking for $1800+ :scared:

Also agree, both the diesel pick up and the gas motor home got significantly better MPG at 60 than at 70.
The 6.0 was 8 vs. 10 and the V-10 is 6 vs. 9 both towing.
It was hard to do at first, because if I have the power, I don't like to be passed, especially by a Do.. never mind. :)

Ordered some do-dads for the trailer today. Hoping that they'll be here before the Redbird trip.

I still have WF010 mud all over the jeep.

:greensmok

I still have WFOh-10 mud still all over the *inside* of my Jeep.

Slow you azz down.

65 will bump you to about 10

Rev

there is no way at 65 i'm gonna get 10mpg...

cause we tried it, not on purpose but weather related coming back and on a tank running btw 60 to 65...we got 7.4mpg

the truck is turning 2600 rpm at 70 and 21 to 2200rpm at 65 pulling on average 25psi of boost...and that's just normal driving...with a 30ft 14k trailer...

got some ford fuel additive that claims 1 to 2 gains...will test it to rausch creek this week...

dealer suggested a dpf delete kit...said they would warranty it with a dpf delete but couldn't make that promise for other dealers...

4.30 gears is the best answer if i can find some i can afford...

The DPF delete will be the same as a catalytic converter delete. In short, I wouldn't get caught doing that. My suspicion is that down the road, dealerships will be required to call in reports on customers who've removed EPA mandated equipment.

If you do this, don't throw it out, keep it around in case you do have to put it back on.

Jeff, you have known me long enough to know that I don't throw anything out :)

The local Ford Dealer is more in tune (pun intended) with the diesels and issues going on, they even will do an egr delete kit on a 6.0 truck that isn't exactly koser in some peoples minds...their thought is if they don't do it, someone else will...i've heard that they have pushed some warranty claims through that were more than border line...

if you go to the diesel boards there is all kinds of information on dpf delete...i'm just starting to learn about it.

mac 'during regen the truck is getting 1 to 2 mpg' gyvr

The DPF delete has been running around all of the diesel world since it came about a couple of years ago. The CA guys are in a world of trouble with the new CA diesel smog. A good part of that is a visual inspection, if their data says a DPF came on the vehicle, something that looks like it better be in place. For that matter, a bunch of the aftermarket performance options (exhausts, programmers, etc.) are already tagged in the fine print "For off-road use only."

Even if your local Ford dealer is more in tune with the diesel guys, it's not going to be them pushing the buttons. It'll be the Fed Gummint telling them "I know better than you, and you're gonna be my eyes & ears."

25 psi straight and level?

That's a whole lot of boost for what you're towing.

With the 34 footer on the back of my truck I was only seeing 10 psi at 70 mph. It sounds like you've got more going on than just deep gears. You shouldn't be seeing boost like that unless you were needing some serious power, like uphill at highway speeds.

Maybe the 6.4 is way different than my 6.0. What kinds of boost do you see unloaded?

Our shop has pushed through some things into warranty before. We do goodwill stuff for very, very loyal customers. Fitting into that "very, very" loyal category is women with large breasts. My service manager is truly a pervert. Yeah, I know we all are, but he's got no tact. Anyways...I would be weary of the DPF delete though. Hopefully you do a lot of research on the mechanical consequences of that. I know with the Dirty-max, a lot of the tolerances for that stuff are stringent. But, until Indiana mandates smog testing, I wouldn't worry about that side of it.
Edit: I do know that we CAN NOT push through a premature engine failure due to power adders like BullyDog, piggy-backs, ECM reprograms, etc. That stuff will tear up pistons, cyl walls, connecting rods, etc. It's ugly. Ka-BOOM!

There's nothing in the DPF exhaust side of the engine that has any mechanical consequences.

Deleting the DPF portion of the exhaust is as simple as installing a regular exhaust system and uploading a computer program that eliminates the check engine light and the DPF recharging or whatever you call it.

The reason it was all smoke and mirrors a couple of years ago was because the diesel tuners hadn't had an opportunity with the new software to rewrite the DPF out of the program. So people were taking the exhaust off and living with the check engine light, but the computer was pissed when it didn't get the information it was looking for.

Now that the tuners have had a couple of years to chew on it, you just upload a custom tune and take the exhaust off.

Now, the custom tune part will get you in trouble with the dealership. . .
