Looking good! My second favorite Jeep is the WJ.

Anybody have recommendations for External HD synchronizing software that is more intuitive (?) than the factory software that came with my WD? I wanna chose the folders I want than to see "Pictures" and not know what its encompassing because its picking up different folder sizes.

:D Susie, I didn't loose this tooth to decay... lost it to stupidity. But that's a  story

how hands off do you want it to be?
there's lots of open source applcations that will do a delta backup.
I like Areca
you can setup a batch file and just double click it to run.

Damn Jeep.

Left me stranded for the first time this morning. Never been stranded with it till now.

Thought it was the alternator at first till common sense kicked in. Yeah I had to wait on it to kick in.

It would still crank with lots of power. I tried the ole disco and reconnect (CPS)on the spot with out much luck. So I left the truck there thinking it was prolly the fuel pump. Had no way to test on the spot though.

Basically my conclusion is now that it Dies when Hot! So I have some thermal resistance issues on one of my electrical components. By the way it just Dies when driving I am thinking it is the CPS.

I took off work early and the Jeep fired right back up hence the dies when hot theory. Got almost home then she crapped out again. I made it home by driving about 200 yards every ten minutes lol. I didn't have all day to let it cool down entirely.

Found a naked wire on the CPS connector so I will start there. Luckily its on the CPS side of it and I am sure it is time for a new one anyway. Will have to Pick up a long extension though.

Anyway if my thoughts are way off base post up.

Pretty hands off is fine by me, it doesn't need to babysit. Then I can just manually do it once a week, or whenever.

then areca will do what you need it to do, and it will package it all up into a nice .zip folder if you'd like.

You can setup the job to check the folders you want it to check, then just save the job. it won't do anything until start the job, so it won't slow down your PC as soon as you plug in the drive like the automagic software.

Rob,
The CPS is easier to do with many smaller extensions than one big one. the slop in 3 or 4 3/8 extensions lets you "curve" the extension to where it needs to go.
You may want to drop the trans x-member if you can a few inches. it makes it tons easier.

Alright, I'm looking into it. Which one to download?

had a similar problem on my Renix MJ.. turned out I had a wire that had melted through the insulation and was grounded out on the exhaust manifold at random intervals. It was from the harness down to the CPS plug.

Nvm, I got that figured out. Hoping the SmartWare software doesn't clash with Areca. Seems simple enough, thanks!

Or if you have a lift like I do...you can stuff one arm along the transmission and one curved around the front drive shaft...But hey, not everybody works for a dealership equipped with these goodies.

Thanks for the ideas. Rev the Coil is where I was gonna head second. I have had CPS problems in the past but the disoc and reconnect always cleared up my CPS troubles so It is need of replacement. Also the bare wire bugs me.

Thanks for the help I will post up the results this weekend. Waiting for payday Friday.

Rob,

pull the coil off the base, clean the contacts, reinstall.

Let me know if you need more info.

Rev

I'm having the same problem that Rob is having. Only I have now changed the CPS and it's doing the same thing still.

My problem started at Winterfest. I was in the large puddle that's by the orange trail entrance and the rig sputtered and then died. Got a push out of the puddle, Brian unpluged/pluged the cps and it started. Ran the rest of the weekend no problems. Ride home got as far as Champain, Ill and it started bucking and stuttering again. Everytime the thing stuttered the tach would drop and then jump up when the engine caught until it finally gave up and died. Lucky me there was a trailer in the group.

Fast forward to later, dropped the front DS and upper link and got the cps out with a 2 foot extention. Got it started and it ran fine. Turned on the air pump to blow some dirt off my daughters car and the stupid rig started to stutter then die again!! It had been running for about 5 mins.

The codes I got on the way back from WF indicated that it was the cps (?) Maybe it's the coil...

Gonna give that a try and I'll let you guys know.

Sorry for the extended tech talk> :shhh::)

Steve, I had a similar problem on one of my XJ's...ended up being the wires to the plugs. :dunno:

Check your tps. Water intrusion into the tps causes all kinds of havoc. That's a 12 dollar troubleshooting step before you spend lots of money.

I didn't get that deep in the water. And it did it even at hwy speeds, not just idling in the driveway but :dunno: maybe?

$12? Is that the price of a tps? If so, I'd just replace it out.

It wasn't stuttering like I was dropping a cyl or 2 it was like the ignition was shutting down, that's what I meant about the tach dropping. Not just 'cause the rpms changed but like the key was turned off.

Know what I mean, Vern? :chef:

edit: For the short while that it will run it runs great. Revs up, idles and everything. It's after it warms up a little that it does this. I've had coils cause this in other vehicles before so that makes me suspect of this. 'specially after what Rev said. It dislodged my memories! (or is that mamories) :)

I guess I exaggerated a little, looks like they're $38 at autozone. I don't remember them being that expensive, I have a couple in the spare parts box at home.

Don't forget to check your bulkhead wiring connector, if it feels like it's shutting the whole jeep down and then bouncing back up, it might be that connector coming loose when the suspension hits a bump or something. Try and weasel a ratchet and a socket down there and tighten it up.

$38 still isn't that bad. The cps cost me $70.

It's not like the whole vehicle is shutting down, it just the engine quits running. When it stutters like I described, the radio and the blower motor still run. The oil gauge doesnt drop until the engine completely dies and the batt gauge still stays up like the key is still on. That's why I feel it's tied to the ignition somewhere. But all these suggestions need to be looked at too.

Just as soon as my back quits killing me!

I'll take the rest of this tech problem to another thread.

Wanna keep the 'important' thread on topic now, dontcha know! :lecture:
