Update on tire test:

BFG Rugged Trail T/A 31X10.5X15

wet roads: Good
Heavy rain: Good
Mud : BAD

Crusing along a country road that turned from gravel to 2" deep MUD. they got me stopped, and back out....after massive wheelspin.

So far they are not as good as the A/Ts, but better then an all season tire.

Are those comparable to the Long Trail T/As, just deeper tread? Is your Ranger 4x4?

yup...4X4, and they seem to be a little more aggressive then the Long Trail. If you were looking for a on road tire, that may see gravel, sand, dirt (dry) roads, it would be a good choice. For anything sloppy I would stick with the A/Ts.

Just ordered a set of JCR's new 1/4 guards...they look freakin' sweet. I am sure Mikey "JCR Poster Child" Hale will have his set before too long :D

good thing i leave work in 20 min so that something wont be work

Examined my Creep today... On cold start there's a wurhing/whinning noise that seems to be coming from distributor... Appears that the bearing is starting to go from what I've read... Soooo it seems I'll probably have to replace the thing which I could find a better use for $70-130... :S

Hey Austin, let me do some checking, I may have a low milage dist. that we could work something out on.

Man, if you could do that, that'd be awesome! The cheapest one I can find is online at partstrain.com for $77... I'd rather put that kind of money towards suspension components... Let me know, and you might just be my new best friend ;) lol

Heh.... get a room, you 2.

Austin, it's pretty simple to swap distributors simply because these engines are electronically timed. You don't even need to find TDC. Take the cap off the old distributor, and mark where the rotor points with a marker on the distributor edge. Make the same mark on the new distributor. Pull the old distributor out, and slide the new one in. It's a helical gear on the end, so the shaft will rotate on the out and back down. You might have to reach into the opening, and turn the oil pump shaft a bit to get the distributor back down. Whatever else you do, do *NOT* turn the engine over until you get the new distributor in, and bolted down in the right place! If everything goes well, it's only about a 15 minute job.

Thanks Jeff, I was hoping it'd be that simple :). Now Hopefully "Teh Cheez Man" will find one I could take off his hands...

It really is pretty simple. I replaced mine a few years ago (Crown replacement, ran around $130, IIRC for a complete replacement.)

Come on over for a  if you want, we'll change in the driveway here.

Speaking of which, it's time to go brew the next 2 batches, a breakfast stout, and a bourbon barrel porter. I have two empty kegs to fill.

I very well might take you up on that offer if my poor college butt can find one without selling a kidney... :callme:

Just got back from the Lake Superior Pro Rally this weekend, part of the Rally America series. As always a good time, met some people, saw some fast cars in action. Dirt was thrown. Travis Pastrana clinched the title at the last race but he wasn't slowing down, that's for sure. Considering the U.P. is 90% dirt road there's a lot of fun they can have out there. Travis also said this is the race with the most jumps (aerials) in this race series. You ever been up Brockway Mtn. Drive Jeff? The factory sponsored guys get up to like a 120 mph up there.

If you want help with that one, lemme know! I still have fond memories of the batch you did last time.

Matt, the BBP is bubbling happily away. I'll start it carb'ing around the first of December.

Brian, I've driven Brockway Mountain quite a few times. I played a couple of times with my Fiero GT (gotta love a mid-engine RWD!) I wasn't aware that LSPR ran up the Drive. That would be an incredible ride. VERY tight corners and enough straights to make someone a believer.

Decided to change the pass side motor mount to the MORE mount I got from Colon (<--I know:confused1). I had already replaced the drivers side about a month ago. Everything that could go wrong did, I could not find the new mount in my piles of junk, the stud that isn't supposed to spin DID, and I had to remove the oil filter mount. I think all of that is normal for the job, but it was not fun. i get to go see the jerk parts guy at the dealer for the o-rings (that were leaking anyway). I hope to get this together to go wheeling on Sat-Sun, but with the Jeep in another county and me working 2 jobs I may have to do it on Friday night/Sat morning.:passgas:

So, I'll be putting on the budget boost and sliders this weekend. Probably going to order re-treads next week, but I guess it could be as early as this week.
