Important

Hit a small deer last Tuesday in the Blazer. Had I been in the XJ, I doubt it would have scratched the paint.

Megacablimo getting love...

Changed the oil/filter/fuel filter after the recent adventures...

Tighted a couple of hose clamps where antifreeze was leaking...

The check engine light reset itself...

Found a smoked rear ujoint at the axle end of the rear driveshaft...took it (the entire driveshaft) to Ft Wayne Clutch (our local driveshaft specialists), suspected a bad carrier bearing as well as some wear in the splines of one of the driveshafts... was told that driveshaft set up on the newer dodges is a PITA to get vibe free...said they had built one piece aluminum (5 inch diameter) to replace the carrier bearing set up on the late model dodge stuff with great results...

so tommorrow i should have a 82 1/4 in long 5in diameter aluminum driveshaft with sealed spicer joints for the big girl...was quoted $300-350...

still need front brakes...

cut the carpet out above the muffler on the baby jeep (buddy borrowed and it caught on fire while i was in moab)...funny how the smell i thought was burnt tranny fluid was burnt/burning carpet...

and the jr. XJ has a smoked pass side axle ujoint...

That's not bad at all for a d-shaft. Catt Trucking here in Vincennes quoted me $188 just to go through the CV joint on my rear ds on the XJ. That was just 2 ujoints, labor and a yoke.

I pulled the joints, checked everything (yoke looks to be fine, maybe needs greased) and plan on putting new joints in tomorrow. It appears the inner joint had some play, hopefully that's what was causing the vibration and squeal.

Double check the centering ball.:twak: JIM.

that doesn't seem too bad, mac.

I'm pretty sure I remember you are running air bags? Check and see if you have the rear proportioning valve attached to the rear axle from the frame. If you do then cut the thing and lengthen it. That will give you your rear brakes back. <---your truck does not know its loaded because of the bags.

I was smokin through the best severe duty pads and rotors that I could buy. I checked out a camper forum and found the advice about the prop. valve on the rear. My truck with 130k on it showed almost no wear on the rear shoes. I know you have disc, but there is still a chance you have the valve.

For what exactly? It moves smoothly in its range of motion and all the needle bearings look good with no side-to side play. It does move a lot more freely than the front CV, but I can't remember if it always has or not. Just want to be sure before I put it all back together.

I do have air bags, not sure about the proportioning valve, but I will check that out...

my fronts are toast because the previous owners allowed the front pads to wear to metal on metal smoking the rotors...instead of replacing pads and rotors they just put pads on...all of which i didn't notice until right before leaving for moab...so i have to fix what they didn't fix properly...thanks goodness for an exhaust brake...

btw, picked up the driveshaft this afternoon, 6061 aluminum...at least 5 inches in diameter, 82.25 inches long for $325...

working a part time right now, will snap a pic before i throw it in this evening...and then take a hot lap...

We closed on the new shop, I mean house and shop, yesterday. Contractors are lined up to come and pour the foundation for the "wife's garage" next week. Man this is going to be nice, a shop that is soley a shop and not the family "catch all" The new JD2 bender should be here in a week or so and then things are going to get fun!!!

And for the inquiring minds...hell yes it is gonna have a nacho cheese dispenser in the shop :D (inside joke for a few of ya)

I hear ya... the Durango needs tires, the XJ needs the d/shaft reinstalled and the Blazer needs a hood and grille.

Put the XJ's d/shaft back together today, I just happened to have 2 1310 ujoints on hand, not sure when I got em, but oh well. Greased the snot out of the centering yoke/ball, seems to be tighter now than before. True test will be tomorrow or Thursday once I get it back in the Jeep.

Congrats on the shop Tyler! Add a beer tap and stripper pole to the list and you'll be set :D

I still have the same kegerator that I had in college. The ol' girl has a few miles on her but keeps a pumpin'. Hell, did ya think I was gonna have a nacho cheese dispenser with out a beer fridge?? Stripper pole will come with time...patience young grasshopper :D

got the shaft in...got vibes at 70+...

forgot there was still air in the bags from moab...gonna let that out and give it another go around this weekend and see if the vibes disappear...

Got mine in too... still squeals once you get to 20 mph, and then anytime after that. On deceleration it is worse. Still sounds like a ujoint, as it squeals at yoke speed, not RPM or wheel speed. Dammit.

Not entirely sure what's making noise, I guess the centering yoke could be more worn that visible with the eye.

Get that thing on a 2 post lift and drive it. Maybe an alignment rack where you can lift it at the axles.

Move to Illinois, then you won't have to worry about driving at 70.
