Important

Man are we getting the rain! Not near as much as ya'll in IL and IN, but we got about 7 inches of rain since yesterday afternoon. I just now made it to work and have been in the seat of the tractor since 4:30 AM this morning repairing the washed out crossings on the farm so I could get the feed out. So, I guess you could say I have been "wheeling & mudding" already today! The worse is yet to come though...the "after mud" that all the local teenagers will go aout and tear up my field roads and my county roads to my farms...damn kids!!

If I did not have to travel those roads twice a day to feed, I would dig enormous punji pits with steel spikes in them...ok, maybe that is a bit extreme, but come winter when the rutted roads are frozen and they rattle the teeth out of my head (like every winter) I will be rethinking the pit idea! I have often thought about running my bale spike through the front of one of their trucks, but I'd be the one getting sued in the end.

GLUB GLUB BUBBLE BUBBLE GULP,
Any one have a hover craft I could borrow for a few weeks?

We went on 'flood patrol' last night, something my Lar had never been on.
Growing up in the are between Monroe, Beloit, Rockford, Freeport, you know the trapizoid.
I have always looked at the flooded rivers, I did it with my Grand father when I was a child.

Last night, I saw water in places I had never seen it before, the last big flood was in 1996, this will be worse for the Rock river.
Two of it tribuaries, the Sugar river and the Pecatonica River both start in Sowth West WI. and converge with the Rock at Rockton, IL.

Water is four feet over some of the roads in S. WI, and still rising.

The Kishwaukee River which flows throught DeKalb, Belvidere and converges with the Rock south of Rockford is so flooded that NIU was evacuated last night.
Complete houses are under water.

At work we have been busy cleaning logs, washers, bikes, lawn mowers, picnic tables, even back yard sheds out from underneath box culverts.
Today I had to rent a big excavator to clean out one crossing under Hwy. 251 here in Machesney Park.

I have never seen it this bad!

My paving crews have not worked a full day in three weeks!

It is all coming your way Howie, I hope your desk is on the second floor!

Nope, the first.....

It still hasn't come over the dyke behind the plant yet.

One of my workers had to take her swamp buggy out of her devolpment.
My Dad's house has water just over the top of his seawall.

Sherriff says water will crest at 16' 3" on Sunday morning. it was 13' 7" at 8 am this morning. Dyke is 16' 9" above flood stage, we should stay dry.

This shit is starting to seriously ding business. Too much water in too many holes to pour concrete.

BTW, The Dan Ryan will never be done at this rate.....

6" of fudge factor is a little close for comfort!

The flooding not been extreme here in Lima, but just north about 15 miles they have been getting hammered. Findley got quite a bit of flooding, and damaged many business. There was actually a piece on TWC about it. We are about to get hammered here in about an hour, or so with some good strong ones.

they're doing quite a bit of sand bagging along the Fox River here in Kane County.
The Fox River is getting hammered from its origin up in WI.
70 mph winds at DuPage Airport.
