Important

so, we can rule out the switch, that's far to easy.
the farther I delve into the wiring of the Mj the more I want to gut it and start over.
someone's "modified" most of the lighting circuits.
I've narrowed it down to the wiring at or very near the switch.
Trying to get at the main harness to split and inspect it.
lot's of fun standing on my head.

and the survey says...

the mother fawking clock power lead.
i removed the clock and tucked it's wiring harness back along the cluster. It chaffed under the dash because now it had slack. So I'll be romoving all the wires.
it only took abour 12 hours of labor to find that bastard.
Now I just gotta put the Mj back together.

Makes me glad I don't have a clock. JIM.

just got it back together.
got a few other things "fixed" under there.
found that the brake light circuit had been hotwired, so I repaired the original fault and put it back to stock wiring
fixed my brake warning circuit lamp
fixing the brake circuit made the hazards work.
out a new starter in.
tomorrow evening I'll be doing shackles and spacers. fun fun fun

I've begun tearing mine apart to get the exhaust manifold off, hopefully it will be off and welded and back on tomorrow if its not raining.

Jeep is in the shop fixing the gear install I attempted and getting front gears as well. Was an interesting conversation with the wife, apparently I forgot to tell her I was about to spend $1000.

Consequently I was told to do it all myself this time :(

I have a day off!

I have been puttering in the basement, drinking coffee, and now I an going to visit and old friend.
Would that friend be a naval officer named Morgan? :pirate1:

So your MJ has had years of people fawking with the wireing too?

MY whole fuse block ought to be replaced as 4 or 5 of the spade holders have pieces of wire stuffed into them to make the fuses contact.
my interior lights dont work - and its not cuse the bulbs are bad.
mt brake warning light is on all the time
my reverse lights dont work
my stereo is all custom wired, using NONE of the factory harness (i am at fault for this one, the factory harness had been cut and messed up way too much for my likeing)
Quite a few of the intereior wires that I have no idea what they do have splices and connectors on them...
The circut breaker for the windsehild wiper motor has a loose connection - so they work... sometimes...

uggh - chasing wireing gremlins is not anywhere near as fun as shopping for 4wd parts for the MJ... :D

appears to be a theme.
I found two wires spliced into hot wires in the cab, they went no where and had bare ends.
the brake light swith was wired into the fuse block direct, no fuse, always hot. Good thing it didn't catch fire.
the brake warning circuit is still fawked, but at least now it tells me when I forget to turn off the parking brake.
I found about 4 connectors under the dash that looked like they had once been connected to something, my guess is the audio buzzer and the maintenance required lamp.
Oh, and my wipers only work on low and high, intermittent is hosed, and the washer feature works seldomly.
sound familiar Opie?

If I wasn't so lazy I would take a picture of the disaster the wiring in my MJ is. The PO made a 'custom' fuse block. Out of 1/2 plywood and some fuse glass tube auto fuses. My new mantra is : never buy a truck from an electrical engineer.

Remote from....

Well I'm home now.

Stayed downtown STL last night at the Hampton Inn on Market St. I don't have a laptop and was elated upon arival to see several community computers in the lobby. Kids and mommy went to bed and I went down to get my daily dose of NAXJA. Got down there and they had the damn site firewalled! They labeled it as a "chat site" and all the other boards I check out.

I was bummed. I wanted to be one of the cool guys with the "remote from..." posts.

from now on you'll know to have your ome PC setup with remote desktop, so you can use it as a proxy.

anyway. shackles are on the heep, it has a pleasing stance now, skyjacker 3" shocks limit my droop.

I've noticed that now I don't webwheel nearly as much since I actually have to do things to my junk.
I have a new found respect for stock. It's so much easier.

R&I exhaust manifold with a little welding thrown in the middle today. Wasnt nearly as bad as I thought. Still havent cranked it yet so I might be crying later.
