Big drives scare me. I've got two 750 gig WD's in the media machine instead of one big drive.

That's a smokin' deal though.

My drives are slowly filling up courtesy of Netflix.

I don't plan to use it that much. It's mainly for backup purposes. We were lucky that the last time our puter died that we salvaged the Hdd and were able to keep tons of pictures.

It's pay back time...Your going down New York Jets.

Our pictures are on 2 laptops, my big 1TB external, my small 500 gb usb external and the home desktop.

Storage is too cheap nowadays not to have at least 2 places to put your important family stuff.

I may have screwed myself by not backing up my computer. The laptop is plagued by the BSOD, can't boot past it. Something about a page fault in a non-paged area. I didn't get a XP cd with the computer, so I've been trying to find one to borrow to either boot from and fix the problem, or just reload windoze.

Get yourself an adapter for an internal hard drive to USB. Cost you 15 bucks on the net. Take out the HDD, save all the folders to another computer and then format it to reload windows.

250 gb externals are cheap. Makes it easy to transfer that stuff around.

We worried about our pics on the computer so we go and get the little usb jump drives. Copied all our pics over to them and took them to the safe deposit box. That way if the computer crashes we don't loose all the pics.

I don't plan on keeping this thing hooked up 24/7. It'll be in the fire box most of the time.

Yes, I agree.
I've got 2 320GB's in the desktop, and now the 1.5TB External. I don't trust our laptop to store anything.

The chances of all three of them dying at the same time is slim to none. Redundancy is key.

I really wish I could have found a large capicity portable external HDD for the same money. No more than I plan to use it though, I suppose I can deal with the power adapter.

Anything more than 500gb really taxes the USB power. I'm sure they're out there, but they're $$$
