Important

I'll leave those sorts of shananagins to those that have the $$ and know what they're doing... I'll stick to trying to figure out how to get up this hill... :)

those that have the $$

Who?

and know what they're doing

... now I KNOW you're not talking about me! :D

It was my last run with the XJ so I figured what the hell. I started to tear it apart yesterday, everything is out of the interior and engine compartment except for the block itself... pretty wild to tear an XJ down to the bare metal in about 5 hours.

But fun none the less. Collin and I have it down to an art now a days. We can strip a 97-up model in a good afternoon, all the way to a bare can sitting on a trailer ready to go to the scrapper :D yeah, we have done a few as of late.... A sawzall is handy at times as well

Beer is handy too :D It's been quite a bit of fun. I cut the front crossmember off and I'm going to try to pull the engine, trans and transfer case all at once, is that going to work pretty well or will I run into problems?

How should I get it onto the trailer when I'm done? I don't have a huge shop like you, I'm just 2-car garagin' it. Maybe I should figure that out before I pull the axles and suspension off. :dunno:

we ghetto strip it in the shop (we used to do it in my one car garage back in the day!) and then remove all interior except the steering wheel and column. Strip al the doors, header panel, sheet metal etc off it and then cut the front cross member off w/a sawzall and cut the exhaust too, if not it can cause some problems. Once everything is off that is in the motor compartment and you have unbolted the drive shafts etc, unbolt the t-case cross member and have a roller jack under it, not a bottle jack. Unbolt the motor mounts and make sure all the wiring going to and from the motor are all unhooked/cut and remove the fuel lines as well. Using the cherry picker, jack that biatch up and yank it out of there in one big piece. I recommend leaving the brakes intact (so it does not roll off the trailer!) and then after the interior and motor/drivetrain are pulled, roll it onto a trailer and then jack it up and put blocks under it and cut the axles out of it, or unbolt if your saving the control arms etc. yank the axles out and then strap it to the trailer and haul off to the scrapper.

And YES, beer makes the project a bit more enjoyable at times...or soda in Collins case :D

This sounds more or less like my plan. Interior is gone except for the column, exhaust is gone, all wiring is gone (intact and uncut even!), floor jack under the T-case and hoist on the motor. I was mainly worried about getting it onto the trailer, I think I'll do what you're saying and roll it up there then remove the axles/arms once it's on the trailer deck.

A one-car garage would make this not a lot of fun, I think...

Good to know. I'd like another spare t-case, I sold the last one. Can you deliver me one to WF? :D

Hey Aaron, If I part another rig by then you bet. It just would not be Winterfest if I was not ahuling up a truck and trailer full of crap ("crap" is also inclusive of my Heep :D )

I like to refer to the color as goldishtanishcrapish..it is a custom blend :D

maybe I can get some corn stockers to randomly put on it...OK, that was a bit gross :puke:
