Important

The wife and I went out to eat with some friends last night at Tony Roma's. I am not impressed. Went to the casino afterwards. Walked in with $40.00 and went to the black jack tables. Walked out two hours later with $2500.00!!!!! Not to bad for not going to a casino for almost eight years.:D Now to find a new trailer for hauling the jeep.

KIm my dad is selling a trailer, it is a nice one, $1000.00.
Let me know, soon.

I think bloose is selling his bus.........

This happened last weekend and I just now remembered to share it.
Friday
So the day started off with me takeing my sisters dog to the vet. Had to pick it up at 3pm. So I dropped the dog off and was heading an hour south to help a buddy install a 700R4 in a chevy truck.
We get the trans in and I have to get going to get the dog. Im covered in trans fluid and grease and grime.
Get back to town and get the dog and then head home for a much needed shower.
My sister calls says she will be there in twenty minutes to see how the dog was doing.
So i put off the shower and wait for her.
She lives in West lafayette shes a grad student. She had to drive around researching bugs in the entire state as part of her project.
Any ways she had been two hours away from lafayette that day.
She had gotten her oil changed the the prevous wednesday at Jiffy Lube.
She met me at home we talked for a bit and she decided to head home.
So i jump in the shower and she leaves.
Not 2 minutes out I get a call on my Cell.
My sister.
"My check oil light came on and I pulled over to check it and it was not on the stick and theres a big puddle under my car."
Me
"k hang on a sec."
i put my nasty cloths back on, hop in the Jeep and head her way.
Turn onto the first country road and see an Oil streak didnt think much of it.
Get to her look under the car reach for the plug.

No Oil plug..... Hmmmm.
So i buy a plug, oil and filter. Put in the new plug. Threads were good not striped. Put the 5 quarts of oil in. Cross my fingers and fire it up. Runs smooth no noise. Good deal so far.
She said she heard a pop back by my drive way and didnt think much of it. So we back track.
To the begining of the oil streak
There it sits The plug.
Pretty obvious it wasnt tightened enough.
So Sister takes mutiple pictures. The streak, the old plug, me puting the new plug in, the oil under the car so on and so forth.
She goes home to contact Jiffy Lube.
First they dont seem like they are gunna do much.
Sister
"Ive got Pictures..."
Jiffy Lube Dude
"Oh... Pictures????"
"Well Lets see what I can do"
She got her last oil change refunded, the new oil and plug I bought she got her money back on that, Her next five changes done free, and any damage that may occur in the next 6 months will be fixed on jiffy lubes bill.
Oil "tech" got fired.

Glad she was around here and not in BFE somewhere.
I got the old filter I have yet to cut open to see if theres metal in here at home.
Car still runs good and makes no noise.
She may have got lucky but I dont know.
Thats a long time without oil.

Sorry for the long post.

Gave it a motor flush and a new Valve. Max Life oil change as a "birthday" present.
Have noticed the last couple weeks that she slips/doesn't shift right, when hot...
Next paycheck hopefully installing trans cooler and flushing trans...

a guy i work with has a 96 xj classic. straight with 145k and only rust is the floor boards are starting to go. his ol' lady ran it with a broke serp belt for a looooooong ways and it over heated and quit running. can't get it to start, definately see leaking head gasket out of the pass side of the block...

he's done a bunch to it, i worked on it a bit today, i think theres water in the cyclinders and/or compression leak (didn't have a tester)...long story short, think he's leaning on selling it.

whats this thing worth...i already told him i'd give him more than scrap value...

my brother's back in town (he's driving the stock blue xj) and the old baby jeep is still down for repairs...i'm thinking head gasket and get it back on the road for cheap...hoping the tranny didn't get too hot to destroy it...

i figured $300 at least...oh its cloth seats (great shape), 4.0/aw4/231

mac 'whats 4 xjs' gyvr

I would think that is a fair enough price to start w/. There is a 93 here that needs painted after the guy has replaced the body panels and it still needs a loaded header panel and he wants $300 for it...which I think is over priced for what it is. So I would think your in the ball park with that offer.

Go Figure! My Internet got turned off at home til i get my bills caught up and the damn internet at work starts acting stupid! It lets me on her for like 5 minutes at a time and then it times out! SWEET!

Yeah, you shouldn't be surfing at work... Oops the boss is looking over my shoulder... :D

Got some good news this morning... Dad did not have a stroke on Saturday night, and his kidneys are in good shape. Doc says that for an 84 year old, his brain is all there.

Your on break a lot aren't you...

Good to hear Jeff

Okay, just asking, your closing in on another thousand since our last exchange about posting lol.

Well, I was already pissed about the cash for clunkers thing and then I go to work today and a coworker tells me that she bought a new Civic this weekend under the program. The Civic's a fine car, but the victim of the crusher is a perfectly good 98 XJ. She's not a jeeper so I didn't go into all that, but it's still a shame. I don't blame anybody who took the deal, but it's a joke of a program IMO. A two week friggin band-aid...I'm gonna blow a gasket if they extend this thing with my money.

:soapbox:

Ok, I'm done :wave1:

Don't even get me started... they don't crush them, they drain the oil and fill the engines with sodium silicate and run them till the engine seizes. I spent a couple hours watching Youtube vids of it, it's downright painful to see. Lots of perfectly fine cars made useless... saw a 735i, a nice Volvo (XC70?) and a WJ ran till they choked. And quite a few XJs.

It's great because a lot of the vehicles I saw destroyed, I'd probably be willing to pay $4500 for. And I guess, in a way I'm still paying for them. Local news ran a story and they showed a TJ as an example of a poor-mileage vehicle that would be eligible for C4C... right... before I saw the light and bought an XJ, I looked for a TJ and couldn't find one for under $4500...
