Important

when I come home from the city my beard is full of glitter, I smell like coconut body spray and I am about $1500 poorer........

And you get real good memories about spankings, ATF raids, men with no necks, girls in flannel shirts with their tits out, and improperly disposing of a beer bottle.

Quick easy way is to Cut the hole, drop it in and rebend the stock straps to reuse as bolted down.

Fancy way is to fit a stock tank skid in welded to angle then drop tank in.

I never had to worry about fumes due to no windows in both XJs I did this to but its not hard to build a sealed box round the tank. Filler tube can be an issue but get creative. Wires and hoses should reach with a little rework.

Didn't John D raise his gas tank? Not much further to go Dan and you will be back into a rig like your old rig

Thoughts on 35s with stock D30 shafts and a lunchbox locker? Got a line on a cheap set but don't want to pop shafts every trip and I don't have the cash to drop on alloys just yet.

Not worried about the 8.8.

I'd run the D30 til you were tired of replacing parts.

Then go 60 or go home.

mac 'but you knew that was coming' gyvr

I still have windows, heat and a/c!!

i dont see the need to consume the cargo area. most tank relocations are to make room for a stretch or giant center section of a full size axle... but:

Without the leaf springs, you can really see how low it hangs, I don't want it there. My first thought was to use a fuel cell, but I quickly talked myself out of that. Then I was thinking of a simple tank skid, but I really think I'm moving the tank up. Until next week anyhow. Lol

i dont mean to imply moving it is a bad idea. not at all. but with a sturdy skid... its pretty low on my list.

just dont go pressurizing it again. :anon:

I ran 35 & 36s on the d30 that is now in rewsters rig. It has a powertrax in it w 4.10 gears and I only broke a couple shafts. You've been wheeling a long time, you'll be fine bc you know how to drive.

Dan what year is your rig. I think 98 went to plastic tank that doesn't have the lip around it, so it's not as easy as cutting hole in floor and moving up....

01. Yeah, I've got a plan

Like I said. Cut hole to fit skid then drop tank in, bolt down with rebent straps and go. Make it as pretty or dirty as you want.

Yup, very similar to my plan

So I bought a Smittybilt hi lift clone for $35 yesterday from 4wheel parts. If I die this summer we know why

even hi-lifts break. I have 2 in the shed right now that are proof. They are dangerous as hell, but an evil necessity at times.

Okay, who has cut their rear floor to raise their gas tank, or drop it in from above?

Any concerns with structure?

Keep in mind I'll be linked, so no rear spring mounts.

I have done this to my jeep. How far up are you looking. I have a build thread on JF but i quit updating it same user name. I have pictures on there or i can try to upload them on here.

I wouldnt do it again though. I still DD mine with heat and AC. Fumes where a little bit of an issue for some unknown reason. Once i built a box and lined it vented that through the floor it was all good.
