Important

I just can't imagine any scenario where a no call/no show would be acceptable unless you were incapacitated or dead

It takes a miracle to be fired from my department at my job. We had people who were completely unreliable, showed up late all the time and did no call/no shows. It took the boss coming in about 10 times before he told one person to not come back in. Crazy part about my department is that the part timers make minimum wage and you can't just walk into this place and do the job (the criteria where with an hour of training you can do the job with no help where minimum wage is acceptable). Of course the supervisor doesn't care if people show up either, as long as the newcasts happen, so be it. Me personally, I said there should be a point system. Late is 1/2 point, no call/no show is 1 point, after so many points, you are verbally warned, then so many points after that, written warning, after that, if a certain number of points is achieved, you are fired. Points expire at six months from getting them. Considering, though, it takes them months to fill open positions, that will never happen.

Anywhere else in production if you are a no call no show you will never work for that company again period...

Trying to decide whether or not to start on exhaust manifold gaskets on truck. Passenger side is leaking pretty good. Decisions decisions. There is only 1 broken nut out of 20. Wonder how many studs will snap.

5.4? If it is, typically I break all the tops of the studs/nut off, once the manifold is pulled off, the studs have always spun out practically by hand w/vice grip. I used S.S. bolts with Heico-lock washers and never worry about it again...

*EDIT* Judging by the picture, if the coolant line at the back of the pass. head/manifold isn't leaking then that wet spot is from the head being warped. Common issue on the 5.4s and 4.6s...

This is on the v10 in the excursion. Just trying to figure out best way to attack it

If they are aluminum heads, I'd do the same thing, S.S. bolts with heico-lock washers. I've done about 6-8 5.4s and 2-3 4.6s and I haven't had a stuck stud yet... If they don't start spinning then hit em with heat as a last resort, drilling them is a PITA from what I've heard.

Do them all. We get them in a kit from napa. I don't know the part number off hand. We also send the manifold off and have it planed true.

It's almost easier to replace the whole thing if the collector bolts break off.

bout 8 more, don't ask me how I know

Ben that's why I paid someone to do mine...

mac 'easier to work a couple shifts of OT' gyvr

crazy enough I pulled the downpipe off of a 96 to fix it's clutch yesterday.
Didn't break the studs.

mangled the nuts pretty well, but I was super surprised the studs didn't snap.

Winner winner. All ten snapped off with barely any torque put to them
now get a Dorman manifold & quality stud set. heat & remove studs, hope none are broke off flush with the head. If they are, try welding a nut to the broken stud, let cool. this might take 4 or 5 trys

If you want a quality stud set, you need to check out the Attica Inn the first weekend of March!
There will be studs there for sure!

This is what I'm gonna try in the morning. Only had 1 stud come out clean and it was the last one I took out.

I've done more mod motors here at the shop than I care to think about. Go buy a bag of wing nuts, and weld em to the broken stud. Use your channel locks, twist them out. The wing nuts are nice because they are shallower than a standard nut.
