Important

Last spring I went through the house and replaced all the old lead pipe and the 50 year old water heater. Then tore the bathroom apart to start remodeling and fixing leaks. The tub stopped draining last month so under I went with a saws all I went. It was gummed up to about 1/2 inch.

All the plumbing was the original stuff from the 60s. The sewer line is iron pipe with leaded joints. Most of them are starting to seep so I'll start that project sometime

yep. my house was built in 58/59. some of the drains were already replaced with PVC but not the ones I had to fix. pretty sure the PO didn't own a level either. none of the drain pipes or gutters had any grade to them to help drain so water would just sit in them. yuk

Brought this home Saturday..

It's a 2005.. Vengeance Racing built 402ci LS2 stroker, Trick Flow heads, Fast 90, Kooks/Spintech, RPM level 5 auto, Pedders suspension, etc.etc. Nitrous Outlet plate kit. Makes close to 500whp on motor and 700whp on 175 shot.

Pretty pumped to be back into a GTO, it's been almost 6 years since I sold my 05 that went 10.80s back when everyone still raced! I'll probably make some changes this spring/summer and have the tune looked over. A cam swap and a Fast 102 would probably net another ~30whp.

So I got an offer today from the company I've been talking to. I'm assuming it's almost always a solid idea to counter offer? The offer is slightly less than what I make now but with commission I feel I could be better off eventually. He told me to let him know where I was at and I think they are in a pinch to get me on board (said he'd start me next monday if he could).

id like to hear some of the replies to this...

i took my last job offer because it was what i wanted. being my first real job outside of college... i didnt have the skills or knowledge to effectively negotiate for more. still making more than a lot new hires, so thats good.

x2
i have never heard of counter offering. i just figured their "offer" is what they plan to pay. id be nervous you're throwing it in their face by countering. im betting Brian has some input.

i feel like you got to know when to pick your battles too...

when you have a heavy skill set and a potential employer that recognizes that... they may be willing to pay a little extra to make sure they get you. but that sounds like a niche job in a specific position, or something that requires a ton of experience. me? there are thousands of college grads clamoring for designer positions with auto makers. shoot, id have probably been overlooked if it wasnt for networking...

bonuses coming up. :) and yearly reviews should further solidify my position.

I've known people who have gotten an offer from a new employer, then presented the offer to their current employer who will then up the ante...from there if the new employer really wants someone, they will also raise the offer. Its not too common, but its how I wound up with my last NYC job. Guy that had it previous to me got an offer he couldn't refuse from a new employer after going back and forth a few rounds with both employers...
