Important

so...in theory, if i put a wj console in my mj and run power to it i should be able to hook the temp sensor and power up and get lights, compass and temperature right? i know none of the computer related functions, but to have overhead lights that click on and off a compass and the outside temps would be kind of cool. i have a free overhead console and temp sensor in the parts wj. i suppose i can just hook it up to a battery to see if it works before i go through the trouble of doing anything

this.

but if it's anything like the 01 XJ console on the inside it will work. The compass and temp sensor are in the console.

How hard is it to replaced the temp sensor in the console? Ours is reading 0 at all times so think it needs replaced

the temp sensor is on the core support in front of the radiator.

if it's reading zero I'd check the connection there.

the logic that makes the readout work is all in the console is a better explanation.

Where is the receiver for keyless entry in an 01? In the dome light? How do you program a fob?

I tihnk that module got moved to the door.
they called it the RKE module.

REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY RECEIVER
DESCRIPTION
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver is a radio frequency unit contained in the Passenger Door Module (PDM) The PDM also contains the program logic circuitry for the RKE system. The PDM is secured with screws to the back of the trim panel inside the passenger side front door. The RKE receiver has a memory function to retain the vehicle access codes of up to four RKE transmitters. The receiver is designed to retain the transmitter codes in memory, even if the battery is disconnected.

For diagnosis of the RKE receiver, the PDM, the DDM, or the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) data bus a DRB scan tool and the proper Diagnostic Procedures manual are recommended. The RKE receiver is only serviced as a unit with the PDM and, if faulty or damaged, the entire PDM unit must be replaced.

OPERATION
The RKE receiver is energized by one of three messages from the RKE transmitter; Unlock, Lock, or Panic. The PDM circuitry responds to these messages to lock or unlock the power lock motors that it controls. The PDM circuitry also puts Lock, Unlock, and Panic messages on the PCI data bus. These messages will result in the Driver Door Module (DDM) locking or unlocking the driver side front door, and the other electronic modules in the vehicle responding as their programming dictates.

the temp sender is actually connected to the front grille, but i have the wiring and the sender. i think the computer for it and the compass are indeed in the OHC...

now the other interesting thing would be if i could install the wj sunroof track in the MJ to get the flip up motor to work. it would be too long to get the entire track to work (unless i cut a slit in the back of the cab lol) but i was looking at the flip up function and it MIGHT be possible to make it work

I think you'd be better off with a manual flip up aftermarket unit if you really want sunroof in the MJ.

I had a factory unit in ugly truck, and just pulled the glass from another 90 for doug. Older Mazda's also had a manual unit that would probably fit.

the mj already has a sunroof...user operated of course

I'm guessing it has the rke, did any late model xj's come without? 98 is a classic, 01 sport, and the 01 has a skim

hell if I know man. Who knows what Daimler was doing.

You know I'm an AMC guy. This 01 in my driveway is an aberration in my jeep ownership.

Re: Re: Important

neither jeeps came with a fob, but I have some for pre 2000, I need to look for a fob for a 2000+
let me check tonight. if ours don't work for our 2000 xj they are yours. with as messed up as our wiring and stuff is on the "freak of nature" they may not work for us. will let you know what I find out.
