Is a D35 vs a 8.25 why there is 2 sizes of rear drums for an XJ? there is 9 and 10 inch. It is a 2000 and has a 8.25

I seem to remember finding out that the 10" are police equipment, otherwise all D35 and 8.25 were 9".

I know that the various ones I've had were all 9".

Jeep made a horrible sound as I was turning to go up the hill to my house... Sounded like a cross between a brake grinding and an empty power-steering pump... I had just engaged the 4x4 (we got over an inch of slush with snow ontop of it) so I'm thinking I may take a peek at the tcase fluid tomorrow...

yes... there are 2 different drums, because there are 2 different axles.

the 8.25 actually has the smaller pad. backwards from conventional thinking, right? ive bought the wrong pad before. if you look at the measurements though, the pad is actually significantly wider. the 35 and 44 might use the same drum/pad. that i cant speak for.

FWIW, they do not. The 44 pad is wider. The 44 drum is every so slightly larger.

If you put a 35 drum on a 44, you'll have to cut the drum off...trust me, I know:anon:

I ordered drum parts for a 93 Cherokee(got d35 stuff), but I should have ordered for an 88...whoops

The kit that has the springs and such are the same though.

No.

There were 2 different D35 brake sizes. 9 inch drums on one. 10 inch on the other. The 10 inch drums are finned like Dana 44's.

Correct.
10" are the 10x1.75 shoes. These were used on most early XJs.
9" are the 9x2.5" shoes which came when Chrysler took over.
I don't know the breakout of years, but the 2001 at question will have the 9" brakes.

You want the 9" brakes over the 10". I don't know why I see the notes about the 10" on police packages as the 10" brakes were not that great.

My Friday also, but Sarah works tonight and tomorrow night(trade off to having her home when I get home all but Tuesday this week). I am also technical directing an event at church tomorrow morning that pays. I am taking a friends son to the range at 1pm on Sunday to get him up to speed on magazine changes in the 22 rifle (10/22 take down) his grandpa got him so he can do rim fire madness in two weeks.

The ak style mag release is about the best thing you can do for a 10/22 if you are using extended mags like the bx25. If you are using stock rotary mags I would just keep the original release. The stock trigger really sucks too. I've put a spring kit in mine and polished some parts, I still don't like it.

Yesterday was supposed to be my last day but.... here I am, sitting at work...

He is using a normal mag release on it. I was going to help get the gun, instead I will be getting him stuff for it. I will probably get a tactical solutions extended mag release like I have on mine. I will be upgrading my red dot and plan on giving him my old red dot.

My Thursday!

But I'm working for someone on Sunday night which is my Saturday so it's really only Wednesday...

I haven't had a complete day off from both jobs since the 16th.

If my days off from the city are during the week I don't really have days off.
