I keep reading the directions for my 44 zip and it makes me glad that Brennen is installing it. Not the locker I should be learning on lol. Weird carrier shimming.

What is making everybody go with the zip locker over an arb locker? Trying to figure out why its the new hot item to have.

It took me a little while to find any locker for a 29-spline 8.25. I finally got a LockRight from JustDifferentials on here. Still way expensive, $400 I think? It's no wonder so many people go 8.8.
Just price. It's $300-400 less than an ARB which makes it fit a lot of budgets more easily. The Yukon has been proven to be pretty durable which has squashed a lot of the "price = quality" arguments.

ARB makes an air locker for the 8.25, but it's a grand+

ARB just had to change their warranty and started forging their side and pinion gears and changed their case to a two piece design instead of the three piece they've been using . They still use crap seals though compared to the zip locker and even after Yukon's price raise the zip is still cheaper. You can usually get a zip locker and arb compressor for the price of just the arb locker.

Same with the 8.8". It's weird that Yukon doesn't make a 8.8" zip. It's a common axle swap for most jeeps and probably other makes too.

No kidding I even bought set up bearings then we realized the shims go on the outside...a real PIA trying to hold all of that crap....A case spreader is almost a must for this install. we were able to get it in with perfect gear set up but honestly I think we got a little lucky.
