Thought iPads didn't have GPS?
3G and 4g iPads have a GPS receiver built in, like the iPhone. You don't have to have the data service.
I bought a wifi only one, which doesn't have a gps antenna, but I'm going to transmit the gps signal over Bluetooth, which is more accurate and reliable than the antenna they cram into the more expensive iPads. The Bluetooth GPS receiver I posted is $125, but it connects to 5 devices, so if the boys want to see where we are in the back of the car, they can access that gps information on their iPods just like I am on the iPad.
The bad elf receiver is also capable of data logging and has a small LCD screen, so if you're a hiker or a biker, you can throw it in your pocket and record where you go and download it later to your computer or whatever.
A lot of the pilots I work with are using these receivers and aeronautical gps apps on their iPads to supplement the information in their planes and a lot of private pilots are using it rather than spend a ton of money on a gps enabled avionics suite for their airplanes. It's basically a moving map for them and it only costs $600 instead of a ton of modifications to the planes.
