Can't you bleed a master cylinder too?

I'm sure they're bled good. I gravity bled them first, then two rounds of pressure bleeding.

I will bleed them again.

If it's occasional, it's not the master cylinder. Once it goes, it goes all the time.

You're supposed to bleed a new master cylinder back into itself when you first install it. If you haven't changed one, it's probably ok. If it has air in it, it will take a LONG time to get all that air bled through the whole system to the wheels.

Pump up the pedal without turning the jeep on. If it stays hard, everything is fine. Then turn the jeep on. The pedal should go down. That tells you the booster is good.

If it doesn't get hard and stay hard (!) then you've got air in the system.

I have a spare master cylinder in the garage.

Bought another Jeep today, that 5 total.
 
Have to disagree about the master and "once it goes, it goes"

I've had two fail that did exactly this. Pull up to one stop light, pedal goes to the floor. Next light, acts like normal. A few stops later, goes to the floor.

It could be air in the lines but it could be the M/C too.

No worries. Different experiences for different people. In any case, they're like 30 bucks and easy to change.

If you have a brake problem and you think the master has something to do with it, spend the money and the 20 minutes to change it.

That's kinda what I was thinking too. I don't think Moab is the place I want to wonder if they work.
 
I've had wear inside the MC thats allowed the seal to partially pop out of place at random times... However I've also had MCs that were left unhooked (at the calipers) for a long duration that took quite a lot of bleeding to get the air out of. In either case if the part isn't that expensive (i.e. cardone MC like $40-50) might as well re-assure yourself and just replace it... I like to bench bleed the MC before putting it in the vehicle so I know that there shouldn't be any air in the MC (as long as I get the lines on quickly)...
 
I figured it would have been filled up by now, I noticed it was posted while I was camping but my phones internet isn't the best.
