Important

X2 for Mac's, I've had mine for about 5 years now. Initially I was turned off by the price but they are very nice and the axle straps are awesome. And as it turns out, only having 6' of strap to tie up is a lot nicer than 30'. They have been pretty weather beaten so it is probably time for a new set soon.

X3 for Mac's. They are pricey, but it's worth it. I've used mine for about 3 years, and they still don't show much wear. Everything still works great. Sometimes they run some free shipping promo's too.

Hey. I've used chains and binders for years with no issues.
That's like saying "I've used the pull-out method for years with no issues." :D

No offense intended, Jason...this is for joking purposes only. It doesn't even mean it reflects my opinion on whips and chains...err. Yeah.

I've always just used chains and binders when ever im towing a vehicle. Normally only tow a couple times a year so chains were what we had and just used them. Those straps look like they would be a decent set to have. May have to look into them if i ever get a tow rig and a trailer again.

Ladies and gentlemen we have an opportunist on our hands lol

I got my first set of straps from the tractor store I think...in 2000. They are long used up and gone.

I got my second set of straps from a vendor in Indy at a 4wheel parts jambo in 2006 I think. They are some type of military grade stuff, still working great, keep them with the single place trailer.

I got sets 3 and 4 from Red Heep when I bought the two place bumper pull from him. I think he ordered them from summit. They tie everything down in the big trailer now.

If you are buying straps I would recommend buying them with hooks that have a tab to keep the axle straps in them. That will keep them in the axle straps while you hook to the attachment point on the trailer. Looking at the Mac's link, they call it a snap hook, you will appreciate spending the extra money for that when tying down.

mac 'tied up and down' gyvr

This is a great recomendation, wish I had snap hooks on mine.

Chains/binders when we hauled the combine across the country...

Same here, always have properly used chains without any problems...I was more just stoking the :flame: on the chains vs straps debate that surfaces around here every so often :D. I have both and depending on the load and how it is positioned, I choose what I feel is the most secure method. All of our heavy ag equipment is done with chains due to weight restrictions and DOT regulations if loaded for cross country travel. Speaking of combines...thinking about an 8010 for next season...super sweet but super $$$$$

Cheese "straps, chains...21 yr old...wait, what?" Man

I bought my straps at TSC before WF12. Still in great shape, but that's mainly because I have only used them twice and I keep them in the shed out of the sun when not in use.

The snap hooks would be ideal, I friggin' hate starting to ratchet the strap down and looking up to see the axle strap dangling by one end instead of captured in the hook.

On the wrecker we use the straps with a mini-J hook on the vehicle end to hook into the factory tie down points. For short distances I like it, but for any long distance hauling I prefer to tie to the axles instead of the frame. That and the PO of my 96 covered the factory slots with the angle iron 'stiffeners' he welded on.

Paging brianho - would it be possible for you to cut out the frame slot on your mid-stiffeners to allow use of the factory tie down?

Hauled my Valiant from Home to Track and back for almost a decade with Farm and Barn tie downs. Stuck hook in frame, the other hook to the trailer and cinched down to load the chassis. Never had a misshap or loose load. The straps restricted the body movement and also provided some give on bumps. I replaced the straps when they got sun warn. Usually 5-6 weekends.

I think that if I had something with a high CG I would have looked at it differently, but that's what worked for me.

Chains and binders for this guy any time I haul a wheeled vehicle. I have had issues with straps.
Straps are fine for securing a load of lumber, but not for vehicles.

Drove a car hauler for seven years so I think I'm qualified to give an opinion here.

When you lost your jeep it as fault of the operator, not the straps. I'm not saying that to be a jerk or to say you are stupid. It could happen to anyone. It's just that good straps uses properly will not fail...period.

When I started hauling cars every car was tied down with four chains on a ratchet. While some car haulers still use this method most are going to straps...for good reason. Just like using a chain to pull out a stuck jeep, chains are prone to break, they rip out frame holes, they fall on other cars and scratch the piss out if them, they have no give and honestly most aren't rated as high as a good strap.

Chains are great for a static load. A load like a steel coil on a flatbed or a large piece of equipment that's blocked but on a dynamic load like a vehicle that has soft tires and suspension a strap (four of them) are really the best option. Still if you know how to properly use chains and binders they aren't a wrong option, just not the best.

Starting to get a little collection going on. we are picking up another one tomorrow.

That would be cool but no crawler to put it on. Could maybe put it on my street truck but who wants an xj for street purpose only. Needs to be offroad.

Nothing wrong with go-fast XJs. Have you seen Team Petty Cash Racing?
