Important

Jog on, Aaron. I'm only trying to restore order to all the jackassery that has gone on the last couple days.

i don't believe there is much jackassery going on sir. just a bunch of people talking about their lives outside of this forum. at some point another topic will arise and then again it will go on for a couple days about whatever that topic is. conversations that would take a few mins in normal life can take days in forum world yo.

^This. Josh, its the important thread, its been off topic since day one. People have said their peace and been done. Same as normal, not sure why you think its any different.

WTF is with you people? It's frickin summer time and everyone is here web-wheeling about who has been doing what for longer...

This is the most important thing we have to talk about in Important?

I don't wheel!! You should know this

I'm looking for steering! Opinions on the Rugged Ridge setup??

My budget would be like $400 max. Its my DD so I'd prefer TREs... Jeep now sits at approx 5-6in of lift.

Please explain why TRE's??

I say go heim and never look back!!

k "the only people that say to run TRE's have never run heims" man

Its my DD that I put a lot of miles on, I go wheeling maybe 4-5 times a year, and the minimum amount of time I drive to get to the closest place is 2hr 25min. (10+ hrs to WF) If I go with a decent TRE system, and I bust one, I can find them at almost any parts store.

It costs $$$ to get a good Heim and you can't find those nearly as easy (in my experience) if you trash one.

Go Heim joints and be sure to carry spares. Or, go TRE and never have replacements farther away than the nearest parts store, or a bunch of other people on the run with you.

I put a Heim joint crossover steering setup on my 94 in 2000 or 2001 while it was still a daily driver, and the joints are still tight today. I figure mine is stout enough that if I bend or break it, I'll probably have worse things to worry about.

No, serious things have been said and people have been seriously pissed off. This isn't normal. Normal is acceptable. I believe that parts of the conversation were very insulting and people need to take a step back and calm themselves with the woosah.

I'm only doing my duty to keep things on the level. If nobody were upset, it would be a different conversation we are having now. You may think nobody was too upset, but back channel tells me otherwise.

I can't find any info/reviews on this, but does anyone think I can run the Crown/Grand cherokee steering setup on my heep with a 5in lift? To me, it looks like a nice 'middle' choice between stock system and the Currie system...

are you asking about the ZJ upgrade?

i used to think my stock style steering was a problem, then i witnessed another member on here flex his far past what my suspension is capable of. immediately a steering upgrade got back burned. lol. though i did recently add the ZJ tie rod. for $40 and a lifetime warranty? i think its worth it. MOOG will be a little more. the nice thing is that the adjuster and TRE and the driver knuckle are the same adjuster and TRE that the XJ uses at the pitman arm. this TRE has a thicker shank than the stock tie rod TREs, same taper. another buddy has bent a couple drag links, but not his ZJ TRE.

is it bullet proof? no, its an upgrade... its also easy to find, easy to install, and easy on the wallet.

isnt currie somewhere around the $450 mark? for the price, i wouldnt touch it, only to have exspensive TREs that you can only order from currie? there are only a couple steering options ill consider now, ZJ is the cheap one.

Alright, after spending 5 hours (I have no life) researching, not counting the time spent this entire week so far, I am leaning towards the ZJ/Crown and Currie setup... From a performance/durability point, I really want the Currie setup (duh)...
But budget standpoint has the ZJ/Crown setup written all over it... And seeing as my build thread is titled "Just another Budget Build" I think you can see where I am going with this...

I did however order Bilstein 5100s this afternoon, I just can't budget anymore than I already have for this project for the year...

I run the 5.5" RE coils and stock V8 ZJ steering...FWIW, anyways.

Get a job and you don't have to worry about what gets posted here during the day. ;)
Believe me, I'd like to get a job, but my options are limited. And when a member brings something to my attention, being a BOD, it is my job to worry about what is posted.

I just saw yesterday that a local paint store is hiring. I'm gonna stop in there and see what they're all about.
