The next workshop is less than two weeks away. I'd like to see a lot more chatter on this forum about what people are thinking.

Even if you plan on attending the next workshop on the 22nd, send in your thoughts before hand. With any luck, if everyone comments (before hand) on why dispersed camping should be allowed (among other topics), they might start the meeting with a statement that dispersed camping will be allowed. We can make a difference but we have to speak up to do it.

I went so far as to forward the report and my response to my friends who wheel but not yet on the Rubicon, to get them to send in responses. Have your parents respond. Have your kids respond. It would be a good lesson on local government. Have your kids take it to school and have every kid send in a response. Have them e-mail Arnold at the capitol about what is going on! Lets get more people involved. Think outside the box. Co-workers. E-mail everyone who ever sent you a chain e-mail and have them e-mail the county.

Rubicon Workshop: Saturday January 22nd, Placerville Fairgrounds, Marshal Building, 11am.

There is a Rubicon Oversite Committee (ROC) meeting on the 13th, Placerville County Buildings, 8:30am. Show up and voice your opinion to a smaller but more important group!

February 26th is the annual FOTR meeting in Sacramento, 11am (I think) at the CA4WDC office.

The holidays are over. The days are getting longer and lighter. Its time to crawl out of our homes and start being productive again. How about a New Years resolution of not letting the government take anything from us this year!

Re: Rubicon Workshop: Saturday January 22nd.

I copied and pasted the above from the old thread just to get this in the minds of everyone.
If you care about the Rubicon and intend to use it in the future send in your comments.
I won't be able to make the next meeting but went to the last one and have sent in my views on the topics at hand.
Get involved!

Re: Rubicon Workshop: Saturday January 22nd.

The meeting today went okay.

ESP is taking input from the users and will re-post the draft online at:

http://www.co.el-dorado.ca.us/Rubicon/MasterPlanReports.html

The new draft will be reviewed in the workshop scheduled for February 19th, Placerville Fairgrounds, 10am?, Marshall building.

Please take the time to re-read the new draft and send in you input. I know this sounds boring but it works. The 250 vehicle limit was thrown out but they are looking to put a new number in its place. Let them know what you think that number should be, if any limit at all.

Dispersed camping is back, thanks to user input. The onsite jail is gone due to user (government) input. Okay, the Sheriff said it wouldn't be legal. But the draft changed!

Speak up about what else you would like to see changed. Speak up on what you like about the plan.

Get involved or don't complain!

Re: Rubicon Workshop: Saturday January 22nd.

This link should take you to the notes that Del Albright took durring the meeting.

Look for the new draft on El Dorado's site and then get your comments in ASAP.

The re-write of the Rubicon Trail Management Plan is on hold. The workshop for Feb 19th has been posponed until Mar 19th. ESP, the company writing the plan is taking the extra time to make sure the input from the users is reflected in the plan. I look at this as a very good thing. There is already word that the Forest Service has backed down on a few issues.

There should be a release of the re-write the second week of March. It will be on the Rubicon page at the El Dorado web site.

For others looking for info on the trail and future projects check these:

I'll be keeping the Sierra Chapter updated right here!

Sorry about the short notice but there will be a Friends of the Rubicon annual meeting this Saturday at the CA4WDC office Sacramento. The meeting starts at 10am and will go until about 3pm.

3104 "O" Street #313
Sac, CA 95816-6519

The public is welcome. We will be discussing the Rubicon Management Plan along with other issue about the Rubicon. The floor will be opened to hear your concerns about the trail. Past projects will be listed as well as gathering a list of projects for this summer.

Again, I apologize for not getting this posted sooner.

...unfortunately Adobe reader is crashing my computer right now so I can't look at the revisions.

Damn, I've got my English final Saturday at 10:30. Is the workshop going to be for input, or to present the changes in the plan?

The workshop should go over the new plan. Input will be taken and you can protest anything that bothers you. I would strongly suggest that you follow up any comments made at the meeting with an e-mail saying the same thing.

For those of you not able to make the meeting. Read through the 103 pages of the new draft and e-mail in your comments. Have friends or fellow club members e-mail in comments.

E-mails do not have to be negative only. Let the county know if you are in favor of any part of the plan.

ESP, the company hired to write the plan, has turned the plan over to the county. They are staying on to help with re-writes. Any comments on the second draft now need to go through the county.

At the last ROC meeting, the tension was high. The Forest Service is feeling the heat of everyone thinking they should have done more and done it a long time ago.

The land owners has offered to deed to the county the land that is part of the right of way through their private property. This would be the land near Spider Lake and would not include Rubicon Springs. They also passed out a list of things they would like to see in the plan incuding width limits.

The Forest Service announced an upcomming closure at Spider Lake. They failed to bring details to the meeting but said it would be along the ridge that marks the watershed for the lake. It would probably be the same boundries from the previous closure. The closure will be for motor vehicles. Camping will be allowed but you'll have to walk in to the lake. It wasn't announced how close to the lake we will be able to camp.

Sub-committees will be formed to address limits, permits and maintenance. We will ask that another be formed to address The Little Sluice Box.

Comments can still be sent in to the county. June 9th was put out as a the first final date for input for the plan. It will come up again for public comment when it the ROC presents the plan they approve to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. Please make your comment known very soon.

The next ROC meeting is May 12th, 8:30am, Placerville.

If you have any questions e-mail me and I will try to answer them.

Thanks for the update.
I have gone over the latest draft of the RTMP several times and am at a loss for words. I just can't see a whole lot of good in it.
Seems like we're :banghead: against a wall.

BTW, let me know when you're going to go in and work on the waterbars on the Tahoe side. Might be able to get you some help. ;)
