Im getting a trailer for Christmas.... what should I look for?

My friend was telling me the only real damage that can be caused by towing is damaging the trans. My Grand wagoneer has a Torque Flight 727, pretty sure they use those in race cars:D So hopefully It will just be an issue of slow acceleration.

EDIT: Wonder if the cherokee would fit on the back of this :laugh3: :http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/2085048147.html Thats like the same price as a new trailer!

727 are very strong transmissions, add an adddition tranny cooler if you don't have one and you should be good to go on that front.

Sounds like a good idea......but insurance and up keep of a vevichle of that age and mileage will be WAYYY more than that of a trailer, kindda think you aren't serious about it anyway though.

Thats a fair deal right there! why not sell the grand waggy buy that and then grab a cheaper trailer for now?

Sorry but I just couldn't do that! Was searching for quite a while for a Grand Wagoneer when I found it right on the NAC classifieds. They only made about 1500 91's and only 150 were ever made in hunter green. Mine is 100% original including the paint. Leather is perfect. Motor runs awsome, but the choke is a little worn out and the 2bbl motorcraft just kinda blows.

Its been my DD for about a month now!

Only the LB7s do that, otherwise the cycle is like any other diesel engine.

Yea i though it was only one of the duramaxes that did that

Just as a point of reference, I bought a new 10k trailer a few months ago, 102" width, drive over fenders, 18' long, with a flat deck. Full coverage is costing me $58/year.

Trailer insurance isn't much, I was talking about insurance for a flatbed vs. insurance for a trailer.

I thought this thread was about a mobile home?

Sweet roller! If that Motorcraft if the 2bbl "slide valve" (like my 82 Bronco's was)...swap it out for a Holley before it gets really cold...mine gave me bad issues in the winter...

yeah I think it is. I dont really have that much experience with carbs, But I think I have seen that slide valve thing.

The carb says "remanufactured" on it, so Its not 20 years old. It actually runs pretty well, even cold starts early in the morning. As soon as any snow falls the garage door closes for good. There is very little rust and im gonna keep it that way!

But some old people have a 85 or 86 that looks like it has some rust issues. It hasnt had plates on it for 6 or 7 years, maybe that would make a good winter 4wd......

I tow with a '06 5500 GMC dump truck:D

towing is for suckers... once I get the stupid thing running again, and plated, I'll be stuffing my XJ in the back of the M54A2 and driving it around like that.

It's basically a giant CJ with an extra axle and a turbodiesel motor :)

I would not want to tow with a waggy, to quote Monty Python "it's not a question of where he grips it, it's a matter of weight ratios!" but it will probably work.
